When the "Communicating with Client popup displays, BOINC quits processing. No matter whether I hit Exit, Cancel, or close the popup, BOINC processing goes blank. If I shut down BOINC and restart it will not connect to the local host. The BOINC window stays blank. I have to reboot to get BOINC to work. BOINC starts properly when I first boot up.

I have an HP Pavilion a6750f with an AMD quad core processor, 8Gb ram, Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit and the Zone Alarm free firewall. BOINC version is 6.6.36. I did not have this problem until I upgraded to version 6.6.36. What is the solution.

When you say: BOINC quits processing, do you mean that nothing gets displayed in the BOINC manager, or do you mean that you've used Windows Task Manager to look at what the BOINC core client is doing? (And that boinc.exe isn't shown as running.)

i believe the way you describe it to a overload of some sort...

name how many task you have and what projects...

this tends to happen if you have over 100+ tasks on the client and if the wu's use a wrapping program it increases the effects.

In my experience, it also happens if you loose the Internet connection.....

Another possibility is that you have a projet that is producing 0 sized results that won't upload to the servers. This <edit> might cause </edit> the Core Client to hang and you get the "Communicating with client" popup, and then the BOINC Manager shows nothing. If you run task manager, do you have an instance of Boinc.exe running? If not, you could try running Boinc.exe in a cmd window and see if it errors out.

In the BOINC manager, all the project info goes away when I click on either Cancel, End BOINC, or click on the red x. The BOINC manager still appears on the screen, but no processes show.

If I look at Task Manager after the BOINC manager goes blank, the Task Manager Processes shows all three boinc processes and the two SETI process with no change in memory usage. It also shows the two Rosetta processes with a change in memory usage even though there does not show any activity in any of the the processes in the BOINC manager. If I close all three BOINC processes in Task Manager processes, the two Rosetta and SETI processes go away.

If I try to open BOINC manager after closing the boinc processes in Task Manager, the message, "connecting to local host" appears at the bottom of BOINC manager, but it never connects.

I only have 4 tasks running in BOINC; two Rosetta and two SETI. I have BOINC preferences set at whatever the defaults are.

add to cc_config

under options;

<start_delay>3600</start_delay>

so that you can see what is going on in bm... nothing will run b/c of the delay, but after you've loaded bm up and can see stuff, go back into cc_config and cahnge that number to 0 and save.
then, go to advance and click re-read config.

cc_config? What is that, and where is it?

Re: Zone Alarm - remember I said I didn't have this problem prior to BOINC 6.6.36 on this computer. I have 6.6.36 running on 10 other computers with no problem. This is the only computer with Vista 64 bit.
