I got a new computer, and thought I'd try some BOINC work as a speed comparison.

I downloaded and set up the BOINC software with no problem, but instead of running under my own account, I seem to have set up another one.

How do I put the new work under the old account?

Thanks,

You mean that at the project of choice you now have a new account?
You can't move the work over to the old account, as work is registered to the computer's hostID under that account. Another account which doesn't have that computer's hostID can't return the finished work.

So all you can do is Detach from the project.
Then go Advanced view->Tools->Attach to project or account manager->Attach to project->choose project->Yes, use existing user->Fill in your email address and password for that project->continue to install BOINC.

I'm not clear on the HostID bit.
I was under the impression that my work was registered under my account, with my e-mail address.

When I go to the BOINC stats page (http://boincstats.com/), I'm listed twice,
once as ralph and once as Ralph, which I would like to consolidate under the Ralph.

I'm fairly sure I did this once before, but I've forgotten how.

Your account is registered to your email address, where the email address is the unique identifier. You can only register one account per email address. Therefore, User Accounts cannot be merged.

Computer hostIDs can be merged, as long as they are the same computer and you didn't change something major, like CPU or operating system.

Work you download is registered in the database to the hostID of the computer doing the downloading. Not to the account or email address. That same hostID must upload the work, or else it is rejected. This is to prevent cheating.

OK, I guess I'm stuck with two IDs.
The old account -was- on a different computer. (also different OS)
Oh, well.

You don't have to be.
Do as Ageless said earlier, and dump the new account on the new computer:
1) Detach from the project(s)
2) In the menu under Tools, Attach to the projects again, but use Existing user
Use the same email address, User name, and password as on your other computer.

Then you'll have them both on the same (old) account.

*******************

Remember, there are 2 parts to this:
1) You
2) Your computer.

The first is uniquely identified to the server by the email address.
The second is uniquely identified to the server by the ComputerID.

Some people have hundreds of computers on the one account.
