I've been running BOINC for a while now, though with the newer versions I've noticed I get a box that is trying to connect to client.

Now to put it a little clearly, my PC is seldom connected to the net, or I only connect it on demand, but this rises the issue of the above error. As soon as I go offline of the internet, my boinc manager can't connect to the client. And this is resulting in Computation Errors been thrown.

How can I make it so that even if not connected to the internet, my manager can still connect to the client.

I've checked my hosts file, and made sure that localhost does exist in there (pointing at 127.0.0.1), and I am at a loss of what else to do.

Help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Do you select "Network activity suspended" in BOINC manager's Activity menu before you disconnect from the Internet?

No I don't. Didnt do it on previous versions either.

The network connectivity im assuming is purely to upload/download of project jobs, so I can't see how this would affect the calculation of jobs nor the connection to the client. Am I wrong?

But it would at least fulfill your wish no. 2:-)
2. Removing the annoying "Connect to Internet" dialog box.

What operating system do you use?

Are you aware that BOINC client and manager communicate through localhost?
(I'm no expert, but depending on how you disconnect that could be influenced.)

IM using windows vista.

My PC is permantatly connected to a local network (which isnt connected to the internet), only a manual connection to the internet is created when I plug my phone into my PC using it as a modem.

Im aware that the manager connects to the client via LocalHost, which is why this is so frustrating, since localhost is never really gone (been 127.0.0.1), the only break is the internet, which doesnt affect any of my local internet settings.

My only assuming around this is that, the manager/client picks up a network change on my local machine, and that fires an event off, but that event then doesnt check to see if localhost is still connected. Least, thats the only thing i can think of, and if it is that way, its a very silly way oif doing things.

Sorry, I can't explain it either.

But did you even try to suspend network activity? Because there have been BOINC versions (long ago admittedly:-) that aborted each and every task running and/or waiting when BOINC tried to connect without physical connection to the 'net. Since then, I always suspend when not connected.

1. Suspend project attempts to use Internet and logging of these attempts.
Activity menu - Network activity suspended.

2. Removing the "Connect to Internet" reminder dialog box.
Advanced GUI - Advanced Menu - Options - General tab => network reminder interval => slide to 0.

Mind giving a link to the PC we're talking about, or in the least your hostID number and project that it happens on?
