BOINC 6.10 will have a "show active tasks" button, which when pressed will only show the tasks that are currently Running and Waiting to run. All those Ready to start will be hidden. That looks like it may really help in some situation. I'll try it. And then, there's always the commandline interface :-) Yes I know. :-) I'm usually using cmd but you now if there's a nice GUI why sometimes don't use it. :-) |

1. I wish BOINC would treat projects that are set to "NNT" as if they were not attached to the PC thereby given the other project the full 100% of resoures. Then when you set them to "Allow New Tasks" BOINC would start getting WU's for it. This would be helpful for Team during racing. 2. When a WU is 5% or so from complete BOINC should over ride the 1 hour between projects or how many that was set and complete that WU. This way a WU would not stop at 98% and have to wait another hour to the last 2% of work and the WU could be uploaded faster. 3. How about a BOINC that will run for DOS 5.0? (Just thought I throw that in there) I do have 1 PC that I run DOS sometimes for fun. |

Not all tasks for all projects run the same length of time. So where for project A 2% would take another 5 minutes, for project B this could well be several hours or days. So just let it run, it will get done in the end. |

Yes I thought about that too. But I still like to see it done. Maybe it could be a user's choice during install/setup for BOINC? |

An option during install/setup is also not possible, as only Windows BOINC uses a true installer. Mac OSX and Linux use just a script. Preferences is also not possible, as they are mostly global, meaning what you set for one project will work for all projects. Local preferences then? A future plan by the developers is still to have the same preferences available both locally and online. So that leaves the button option. But really, just selecting all the other tasks and suspending them will force your one task to run to completion as well. BOINC has multi-line selection these days. Or ask a 3rd party GUI maker to add something into his product. The main problem is, once you give people the possibility to use it, they will (ab)use it. Then in the future they come across a project whose last 2% does take hours or days and then they'll blame BOINC for continuing to run past the switch time, calling it a bug, while all the time it is something they set themselves. |

I would like an option to reduce cpu usage while my laptop is on battery. Like this: * Automatically Reduce Cpu Time to XX % while on battery A good place would be in Preferences on the Processor Tab Note: the * is a checkbox, if unchecked the option would have no effect |

I like that and will forward it to the developers. |

This way a WU would not stop at 98% and have to wait another hour to the last 2% of work and the WU could be uploaded faster. So rather than a % how about a box to allow a WU to run if there is less than XX seconds/minutes to completion, with a selection box for how many seconds/minutes. It need not be fancy with open ended or widely variable time, I think many would be happy something in the 1-5 minute range. |

So rather than a % how about a box to allow a WU to run if there is less than XX seconds/minutes to completion, with a selection box for how many seconds/minutes. That has the same problem. BOINC cannot know exactly how long any task takes, it can only go by the estimate that the tasks come with and these are widely diversified as well, even within the same project, even with the same application. Take a look at Seti tasks, which can take anywhere from a couple of minutes to well over a day for Seti Enhanced, or a couple of days when you get an Astropulse task. What you're suggesting is a micro-management option for BOINC, whereas the developers intend for BOINC to be run without supervision. If you want to micro-manage BOINC, suspend other tasks. If you'd rather let the software do its job, then just leave it be. Work will be done in the end. |

Am I the only one who could use this feature? I have a server, a media-center and a work computer that all run Boinc. I would like them to us all cpu when I don't use them, but not all when I do use them. (Hard to view HD movies when Boinc use 100% cpu) As the settings are now, it's not possible. Or is it?? The only switch I can see is the "√ While computer is in use" (and the %cpu settings below) Can Boinc be set to switch between multiple cpu-loads settings? (not timed switch) Preferably: It should switch to the "low" cpu-load setting the second I take control of the computer. Thanks =] |

I have just one wish...for BOINC that is ;) A nice big 'suspend GPU' button that will change to a 'resume GPU' button once pressed. This will just save having to go in to the preferences page each time I want to play 3D games or watch video. Steve |

Use the <exclusive_app> option in the cc_config.xml file. I have a complete explanation on how to use that in my CUDA/CAL FAQ. |

Use at most ______ % GPU time like Use at most ______ % CPU time I have a powerful graphic card but it's very noisy when it's running at full load all the time... It could be something like: run 10min and sleep 5min or so... or just running at xx% GPU usage... BRANKKO BOINC@Serbia www.plagosus.net |

Use at most ______ % GPU time Since GPU time isn't measured or stored anywhere, it would only confuse people if it were named like that. Besides, as far as I know, there's no way to throttle the GPU. If you want to do it anyway, throttle the CPU, as that will automatically slow down the amount of data that the CPU transfers to the GPU memory and back. |

If is it possible to edit Manager to work with some project for X sec and wait/sleep Y sec, I would like to try to edit the source code and force it to work that way. It seems like possible solution. BRANKKO BOINC@Serbia www.plagosus.net |

Here's how to build the client, it has links to what you need to download to get underway, good luck with that. I wouldn't change too much in the Manager though, as it's "only" a GUI. All those tricky things such as throttle and stuff is done by the client. |

I tought that it's interated and I've just downloaded source for Manager, so I gonna look under the hood at this core client. BRANKKO BOINC@Serbia www.plagosus.net |

I've just gotten confirmation that <exclusive_gpu_app> is an option in a future client, through the cc_config.xml file. Like with the <exclusive_app> option for the CPU only, you can tell BOINC to stop using the GPU as soon as a program with the name in the tags is detected in memory. [trac]changeset:19573[/trac] |

A wish list item... A startup delay timer that is "settable" by the user (minimum of zero, maximum of 120 or 180 seconds) to allow a delay before boinc launches any tasks. This would allow other tasks to get started before all available "spare" cycles are taken up by tasks and allow Windows to get "less busy" before BOINC's tasks go active. Thanks. |
