Regarding Cuda Devices, what does compute compatibility 1.1 mean?


MAIN PC:
Q6600 @ 2.40GHz - Windows 7-64Bit 4GB RAM - BOINC 6.6.38 Win64 - 9800GX2 190.38
NETBOOK:
N280 @ 1.66GHz - Windows 7-32Bit 1GB RAM - BOINC 6.6.38 Win32

You can compare it to DirectX. If you have a DirectX 7 compliant card, you can upgrade to DirectX 9c, but it won't be using all the extra options under that version of DirectX, only those for Dx7.

So for CUDA cards, the earlier models were 1.0, 1.1 etc. They're now up to CUDA 2.1, cards that can do a lot more with the right drivers installed. Those with older capability (compliancy) can run with the newer drivers, but won't use the extra capabilities as those are not programmed into the chip.
