Which BOINC version? Which OS?
What were you doing during the suspend? Possibly doing an anti virus or other anti-malware scan? If so, next time exit BOINC or make sure these programs exclude your BOINC (Data) directory and subdirectories.

I'll kill boinc next time.

<which AV and or FW or Antispam scanner you run>
I am running Ad-Aware (free version) and Avast (free version).

<exclude the Data_Dir structure>
I have changed Avast to ignore C:\Program Files\BOINC and C:\ProgramData\BOINC.

Does the scanner change the file?
I don't know enough to understand what's going on here.

The scanners will lock the files so nothing else can access them at the time. If BOINC or the science app needs them, oh well, too bad.
