I have BOINC running on a number of other people's Windows XP machines (with their permission) on condition that it does not disturb what they are doing. Recent versions of the manager pop up alert boxes if they are having problems with network access, which is irritating for the owner of the machine. I need an option setting which will disable this feature. Phil Liverpool, England |

Better yet, have them open Boinc Manager, Options, Options, Connections, set it to use "Local Area Network (LAN) connection", OK out. If a balloon tip over Boinc Manager is one of their problems and you can install BOINC as a service on their machines (needs administrator rights and a login password!!), then do so. The service install doesn't need Boinc Manager to run. It will then even allow you to change settings and all from a remote computer, with your Boinc Manager or BoincView (3rd party option). |

Thanks for the advice. I'll try both solutions when I get the chance. Phil Liverpool, England |

Phil, I think I had it mixed up. Jord (Ageless) has pinned it down. "The arc of history is long, but it bends toward Justice" |
