Hi,

6.6.2 will crash when selecting "Tasks" folder on Windows Vista x64 - it terminates with the following info:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: boincmgr.exe
Application Version: 6.6.2.0
Application Timestamp: 4974ed8d
Fault Module Name: MSVCP80.dll
Fault Module Version: 8.0.50727.3069
Fault Module Timestamp: 48d0710e
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Offset: 0000000000002c90
OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.274.10
Locale ID: 1044

Additional Information 3: ddc1
Additional Information 4: f0a61242203bcdb2fbb45ecbc652b181

I have tried with newer C++ run-time library files to no avail.

Not a problelm with 32-bit version of BOINC, though.

Anybody else with same experience?

Thanks for that. I did report it to the developer already but will ask him to pass by on this thread, instead of the one in Seti.

I installed boinc 6.6.2 x86 over 6.6.0 x86_64 by mistake. It does work as you mention (32-bit).

The msvcp80.dll version with 6.6.0 (64 bit) is 8.00.50727.762, Snagit64 comes with (v).42, Nvidia comes with two copies (v).26 (ntune and system monitor) The one you show above is (v).3069. The MSI install for the 64bit 6.6.2 shows the following (i have not installed it yet):

<td>msvcp80.dll</td>
<td>_BOINCDepends</td>
<td>msvcp80.dll</td>
<td>1061376</td>
<td>8.0.50727.762</td>
<td>1033</td>
<td>16384</td>
<td>38</td>

It would appear that the 762 is the correct one. However, IANE, and your ID of 1044 is norwegean whereas the ID above is 1033 or english

Can you try this from c:/
where "msvcp80.dll"

it should not show up on your path. if it does show up then possibly boinc is using that one instead of the one in the \Program Files\Boinc directory.

Hi,

I'm not sure what you're asking - seems some text is missing..

BONC is not using the locally installed file, nor any of the ones in system PATH.
Adding BOINC-directory to PATH also does not make a difference.

The file that is this version is Windows system:
C:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.3069_none_88e0bc7d2fae254d
C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft.vc80.crt_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_8.0.50727.1434_none_d08b6002442c891f

This does for some reason not pose a problem on a windows 32-system. Could this be a mishmash between x86/amd64-calls/code?

I think the best I can do is to re-install 6.6.2 as 64 bit and see if I get the same app crash. When downloading 6.6.2 I got that win32 one by mistake. This will have to wait till I finish the last WU.

IANE, but I have complained to Nero about the same AMD and INTEL problem with the side by side (winsxs) manifiests mixed up (the mishmash you refer to)

According to this document an application searches for the dll in that side-by-side directory before looking locally. You might try putting the (v).762 dll's there or simply cutting and pasteing those two directories to some temporary location and see if boinc finds the local dll.

I converted the 6.6.2 MSI install into XML and looked for any reference to "msvcp80.dll" and only found the .762 version as dependency.

I do have the (v)762 version in my own winsxs directory. I do not have your 3069 one. I assume that is because it is language-specifiy (norwegean) and I do not have those here on my english home vista.

Sorry, I cannot help you further.

HTH.

I installed 6.6.2 (64 bit) on my other Vista 64 system: Dual opteron AMD and it runs fine.

I am still running 32 bit 6.6.2 on an Intel Vista 64 platform. Probably will swap that out for the 64bit version tomorrow.

Hi,

There has been a change in code between 6.6.0 and 6.6.2 that causes this, as there is no problem running 6.6.0, and it too has the same version dependency in BOINC.msi - 8.0.50727.762.

Tried that - unable to rename or delete files even though I've set the user as owner of file with all rights, and stopped all services assumed to load this file..

Windows is actually Server 2008 ENU. No language pack installed, and all instances of the file is ENU. Only keyboard and location is set no NO.

Bottom line is that this does not occur in version 6.6.0, so what has changed in code since then?

I have now ensured only .762 is on system, but no change! The same also happens with BOINC 6.6.3.
