Under preferences, can we get a preference to limit apps within a project please. At present we can setup project shares, but not limit apps within a project.

Example: I have S@H set to 75% project share on a quad core but want to limit it to 1 Astropulse (AP) and 2 Seti Enhanced (MB) at a time. That is unless it doesn't have sufficent work to honour the preference.

You would need to know what apps each project has. Maybe add the preference into app_info?

There is a web based project preference to allow different apps. This is not quite what you are asking but may help. You can set it to not get tasks for a specific app.

Thanks. I was aware of the preference on the S@H web site under my account. It only allows for selecting (or de-selecting) the two apps. Unfortunately it doesn't allow for controlling how many to crunch at the same time.

If one of the moderators is reading maybe they could raise a trak ticket for it as a future enhancement. I am sure S@H won't be the only project that runs more than one type of app.

Why not register to Trac and make the ticket yourself? I'm not a mind reader who knows how you want it worded and defended.

Every once in a while someone makes a request for the kind of feature you want. Not saying you should have RTFM or found those discussions but it has been discussed before. The feature you are asking for subverts current scheduler policy and function so it probably has no chance of being implemented in an official release from Berkeley any time soon.

Fortunately, BOINC is open source. You might be able to toss out the existing scheduler and replace it with a scheduler that works the way you've described here. You could call it MOINC, for example. I think it would be well received in the community.

I'm sure it would require a change to the way the scheduler works to also control the apps within a project. Just because the scheduler is pretty good at doing its job now doesn't mean it cannot be enhanced. If we don't ask then it has even less chance of making it into any offical release.

As for my own version, I don't pretend to have the tools or experience to be able to come close to producing my own version of BOINC.

Thanks Jord, I have registered and now raised Trak 747.
