Boinc 6.2.19 (Win) doesn't support being installed as a service. There is no option given to install it as a service.

This is completetly asinine and rediculous.

It is also a waste of time as I now have to reinstall the older version.

Protected mode = service install.
Read the FAQ, linked from the Download page.

Please don't say things that aren't true.

The Protected Application Execution option is the service install. See this FAQ for the walk through to get there.

Then it needs to be called "Service Install", not "Protected Application Execution".

I guess "Service Install" sounded too simple, so something more complicated-sounding had to be thought up. I guess software isn't advanced unless it is made to be unnecessarily complicated, right?

BTW: I did search the FAQ for "service" and "6.2.19". It yielded 0 results.

Had you looked for service only it would've wielded lots of results. The BOINC FAQs aren't written by the developers, but by some of us, mere mortals. They're general FAQs, not pointed towards specific versions of BOINC, unless otherwise mentioned.

The BOINC 6 FAQ which explains most, if not all changes, is linked to from the BOINC download page.

The reason why the "service install" was renamed to "Protected application execution" is explained in the Advanced view: If checked, you will have increased protection against faulty BOINC project applications. However, this may cause screensaver graphics not to work with older applications.
In this mode applications are run under an unprivileged account, so that they cannot access your files.

It was also renamed because most people don't know what a service installation is. BOINC 6 will install by default as a service, unless you specify otherwise through the Advanced button in the installer.

Next time you think something big has changed, please ask. Don't come onto the forums in an aggressive manner and say things that just plain aren't true and are easily found out about through the over-abundance of information on the subject. Try to find information first, as there have been enough threads in these forums alone on the subject to figure out whether your claim is true or not. If in doubt, ask.

I see your thread on the same subject in the Seti forums has been hidden already. I'm going to lock this one here, to keep the possible flames to a minimum.
