Tried to connect to the LHC forums early Friday, only to find the link removed from all the Project pages. I'm posting a comment from a couple of days ago: 20.08.2008 09:20 BST - Hi, We're having database problems and we are trying to get them sorted. It is mostly affecting the forums. I'm trying to get this sorted but MYSQL is not my forte. Sorry about this, Neasan It appears they are having more than minor problems, but hopefully the problems will be repaired soon ... You can still get to the forums there using the links at the bottom of most pages, "your account" page for sure. BOINC WIKI BOINCing since 2002/12/8 |

Keck -- You are right, you CAN get to the Forums in that manner, but if you try to post to a thread, it won't accept it. Looks like some type of software FUBAR, and with all hands trying to meet the start date, I suspect we may have been pushed to the back burner, and left to simmer. Hope they get it straight soon, but I'm hanging around regardless ... If I've lived this long, I gotta be that old |

After a few work units over the weekend, it seems the whole site has gone offline. |

Yep...can't access a thing. |

At least - the web is now reporting. Granted, it's just a generic (CERN is down for maintenance) ... but it's obvious that they know it's broke. If I've lived this long, I gotta be that old |

I wonder if this means that the grid will take over all crunching requirements and our work (albeit valuable in getting the system to where it is) now comes to an end? I must say, though, that there were a couple of enticing suggestions about upgrading the LHC@home software a while back. This would be pretty daft if there was no intention to use it. |

I think you are reading too much into it. One of their last messages was that they were trying to fix a mySQL problem, which they admitted they didn't know much about. Maybe they went too far and it is all FUBAR! |

From what they say in the last paragraph of this page, it may be that they are planning ongoing work and possibly new applications for LHC@home: http://athome.web.cern.ch/athome/LHCathome/history.html It seems, based on the following information that the whole site and project went offline in the early hours of 25 August: http://bluenorthernsoftware.com/scarecrow/lhcstats/index.html (See the 7-day graph and data table for Results in Progress.) It would be appreciated if one of the guys at LHC@home would let us know what is going on. |

LHC is back. Yes, and it appears that we'll be getting some work again! "01.09.2008 12:05 BST - Hi, We're back. The database issue made other things fall over which I couldn't fix. Alex has now fixed them and we are up and running. We should have a load of work next week. This coincides nicely with the actual start of the LHC which this project has helped build. As the LHC is such a large machine there will be plenty of work need to fine tune the magnets once it is up and running so were not done yet. Sorry about the downtime but looking forward to a busy few months ahead, Neasan" |

The Forums are down again, but at least the rest seems to be running. I suppose it means "Shut up and Crunch"? |
