I'm pretty sure this is the right place for this.. I upgraded 6.2.12 to 6.3.8 on my Linux file server earlier today and ran the client as a service like I've always done, and this time, nohup.out reports: Floating point exception Because of this, boincmgr cannot connect, and the service isn't running. I tried manually starting the client and the same error comes out. I don't have, or don't know if 6.3.6 was available a few weeks ago, and I don't think there's an archive for previous development builds, so I can't test to see if it's a 6.3.x error, or a new one. System config is: OS: SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (x86_64) kernel: 2.6.16.21-0.8-default CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (winchester) I don't know what else would be pertinent, but all 6.2.x builds work just fine, even the development ones before they became stable releases. |

Only run BOINC 6.3.X if you want to test the nVIDIA GPU code for GPUGRID. Else don't use it. It's a very unstable alpha version. If you do want to test GPUGRID's code, then make sure to post about these problems on their forums. They are tracking bugs for the developers, we aren't. |

Alright, thanks for the quick replies. I do try out all of the development releases that show up on the download pages just to see if there's anything nifty and new. If there's no problems, I keep using it until the stable release, or a newer stable release comes along. This was just the first problem I've had with development builds, even as far back as I've been trying them out.. somewhere in the 5.2.x era. |

This was just the first problem I've had with development builds, even as far back as I've been trying them out.. somewhere in the 5.2.x era. 6.3 is using completely new code, building heavily (at this moment) around the GPU crunching capability. The Alpha testers group isn't even testing this version. Only a handful of volunteers with the correct video cards and PS3s is testing it. There will also be no support for ATI cards for the next year or so. (So I'll be using my HD3850 for gaming then... :-D) |
