I recently made the mistake when upgrading BOINC of installing it as a service. Now it runs 100% of the time, even when I'm using my computer. I realize this is intended. However, I've uninstalled and reinstalled and its still doing it. I've looked under services and can't seem to find the service to stop it. Any suggestions?

The service name is BOINC, or if you installed the WCG version, World Community Grid BOINC. To uninstall BOINC, go Add/Remove Programs.

Now depending on which version of BOINC you installed:
5.10 and before has the old installer where either the single user or shared user installs as not a service.
6.2 installer: click Advanced and deselect the Protected option. If you then continue, you will install BOINC alike the old single user install.

No, it's not! Even when installed to run as a service, BOINC still observerves your preferences. There must have been something other gone wrong. Please check your preferences (local and server side; the local ones override the server preferences) and your activity setting. It should be BOINC Manager->Activity->Run based on preferences.

Thats probably why it still did it when I reinstalled the first time. I uninstalled using add/remove programs this time and reinstalled and now its behaving the way I want it to.

I restarted my computer and now its running 100% of time again. I can't find either of the posted items listed as running services or as services in the "startup" menu.

I liked this update for the fact that I could actually see the screensaver, but it looks like its back to 5.x for me.

I can stop it by doing "suspend" under "activity" but when I choose "run based on preferences" it just starts up again =/

What *are* your preferences?

Also, see task manager; is boinctray.exe running?

My preferences were not to use while computer is in use, use after 1 minute of inactivity, and also set to "run based on preferences".

I went back to 5.x so I can't check that boinctray was running, but I did have the tray icon, so I assume that it was. You can see now someone else having the same problem as me in another post.
