Who's the best person to contact about this?
having any method of notifying users is good, but i think it would be benificial to have an rss feed as well, I personally prefer RSS feeds to email lists, and surely it would be much easier to maintain a feed rather then an email list

Then again, there are those of us that are still trying to learn e-mail ...

Personally I like the e-mail lists. I have not played with RSS yet, but, it is possible that they would be just as nice ... but, in cases like this, perhaps both would be a better ideal ...

now really paul, how long have you been a puter wizz ;) you're setting a bad example for the newbies lol
but seriously, once you get the hang of RSS you'll love it, I only discovered it because of BOINC and the "news available as an RSS feed" links, now my RSS reader is where i look for news these days :) so much easier

I didn't mean to suggest doing away with the email list, just that if they can only have/want one, then i think a feed would be easier

as for readers paul, i'd recommend SharpReader, does the job very well :)

Which still means I have to figure out how to make the dratted thing work ...

==== edit

Not that it is terribly important. My "normal" tab set starts with Willy's stat site and that has the news from all the projects ... so, I probably don't need it ... I would not mind having a "concentration" of the news on my own page for histerical purposes ... but ...

Well THAT is simple enough... at least for the "how do I read an RSS feed" part. Just paste this into Safari's URL entry box: feed://setiathome.berkeley.edu/rss_main.php

If you bookmark that and add it to the Bookmarks Bar, it will magically get a (1) after it when there is one unread item, or (as mine presently has...) something like "Apple (167)" when you haven't looked at any of Apple's feeds lately. :-)

If your bookmarks bar is as full as mine, you can put RSS feeds in folders, and the folder will show the total of all unread items, with each one in the folder still having it's own. My "News" folder shows "News (653)", then when I drop it down, it shows "CNet (463)" etc. (Can you tell I've been busy on other things lately?)

As far as having a separate RSS feed for updates... I'd say no. Chances are I wouldn't notice a (1) appearing on a feed that only changes once every few weeks, as it'd not be at the top of my "check every day" list. If I'm checking SETI news already, as long as they'd just put client updates in the _current_ RSS feed, that'd be good enough. If I'm not checking, then an email is more likely to get my attention. If it's easy to do and helps people, I don't _object_ to the idea, but for myself I'd prefer the email.
