cant log in with local host
new install Ubuntu 8.4
works on other Ubuntu desktop no problems.
have tried things from this board with no luck.
what should i use for password under "localhost"
the other pc just did its thing no problems

The password is in a file called gui_rpc_auth.cfg in the main BOINC directory.
It's made by BOINC itself and is a 32 character hexadecimal random password. You can change it to any password you like.

Usually you don't need to add it. Localhost should be recognized automatically.
Try the Select Computer option with both both the bars empty. Else check permissions, not that you installed it as root and try to run everything as someone else without having given that account permissions.

Also make sure that boinc and boincmgr are allowed to communicate with each other through any firewall present.
