pages have gone missing and only been able to recover a few from the browser history.

As far as I know, Trac is now only for developers and such, while the Wiki for Users can be found from the BOINC main site (Documentation link).

I just wonder why they didn't leave the link for users and just made it point to that Wiki as well.

Can you be more specific? Which pages are you missing exactly?

Well, at least I now know what you mean, Rob.
Here I was checking how that worked again with the disk space preferences, you know, the Use at most GB of disk space, Leave at least GB of disk space and Use at most % of total disk space preferences.

In Trac I get to http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/GlobalPrefs, where there's a link towards the new Wiki which doesn't have half those options described. It was described and explained in Trac...

So why do you link to the new Wiki and remove the information from Trac if you haven't completed the transfer yet, Nicolas? Now there's no information about these things anywhere. But for, hopefully, on your hard drive as you're still adding to the new Wiki. Aren't you?

Usage limits
You can limit the disk space used by BOINC in any of three ways: 1) Maximum disk space used by BOINC; 2) Maximum percentage of total space that can be used by BOINC. 3) Minimum disk space to keep free. The Default is 10.0 GB

Now, what kind of help is that? It's old as well. You just copied that from the unofficial Wiki. Where's the explanation per option on what it does? Isn't that what's needed in a Wiki? You have space enough, so go explain! Give an example.
Even if you're the only person working on it.

The Wiki doesn't need to be done tomorrow, does it? So why not take some time and explain? Now it's just a jumble of words, with as much explanation as there is in all the other Wikis. It's just another copy of all the rest. And totally useless.

See? That's why I started the BFS. And I only try to put things out when I am reasonably sure that everyone understands what this error means or that function does. Sigh. I'll go write it in there, so there's at least one place around here that explains these things.

(Sorry for the rant. I just found it was never explained in full in Trac either.)

The nice thing about a wiki is that all pages are saved in a database. If you visit a page in Trac and something is missing, click in "Last change" in the upper right corner to go back one revision. Then you get diffs, as well as a "Previous change" button to let you step back some more. If something is missing you may be able to recover it from this edit history.

It would be nice if content moved from Trac to the User's Manual (let's call it that) could leave behind a link from Trac to the other wiki.

And keep in mind that the new wiki, the User's Manual, is for general users. Trac is for developers and projects. So don't move stuff over that is only appropriate for developers or projects. That means some pages may need to be split, with only parts moved to the User's Manual and technical details remaining in Trac.

(late answer) I think I wasn't moving that particular page myself. I don't remember exactly for that particular page, but in general:

* On a few Trac pages, I replaced the content with a link to the MediaWiki page, to avoid duplication (since some people were still editing the pages on Trac, making the MW pages outdated). I didn't first check if absolutely every single bit of information was moved; I assumed if it seemed to have all the sections, all of the data must had been migrated.

* Some other Trac pages had been deleted after migrating to MediaWiki (that way losing edit history, ugh), I don't know by whom. I created the pages again with a link to MediaWiki to avoid broken links.

Yes, I've been doing that as well. Asking David he told me to immediately change links in any page to the new wiki... as if I am going through all pages in Trac to hunt for broken links and point them to the wiki. At least with a forward in place all those links on pages I haven't seen work as well. :-)
