Hello, I'm running boinc on my PC with a setup so that it suspends activity when the user is active. Only recently (the past few days or so) it has not been suspending activity, but running 100% when I am using the computer. It does however still suspend if the laptop is running on batteries.

I couldn't find any mention of anyone else with this problem - any ideas? I've added the log file output below:

What does it say under your computing preferences for your Host location: school, General prefs: using separate prefs for school on SETI@home?? Is boinctray.exe allowed to run and communicate with the various parts of BOINC?

the school prefs are correctly setup for zero cpu when busy, and it has been working fine for many months until recently. I think the problem may be security related: I installed boinc as administrator but this account is not an administrator account now - could that do it? BTW, I'm running vista x32 ultimate and it won't start boinc automatically and vista blocks it.

How can I check if boinctray.exe can communicate with the other parts of BOINC - is there another logfile with more information I should look in?

Before you installed Service Pack 1?

Yes. And you installed to C:\Program Files\BOINC .. Vista hates it when you run any programs that write to disk from the \Program Files\ directory. We advise people to install to C:\BOINC instead.

Then there's is the version of BOINC that you use. 5.10.45 has some Vista specific fixes. So when you want to move BOINC to c:\boinc anyway, consider upgrading as well.

Vista does not like programs to start up at Windows log on, the Defender will block 'em. A workaround is to install BOINC as a service and not have BOINC Manager start up automatically.

No. But as far as I know it communicates with BOINC.exe on the same port as the other parts do: 31416. So you need to allow it through your firewall.
