Anybody have an idea about the feasability of creating a version of BOINC for the the Wii in the from of it's newly developed WiiWare? I'd liken it similarily to to Folding@home client for the PS3. With the the Wii being by far the biggest seller, the potential can be enormous, especially if the download is free. Perhaps BOINC could then be considered the most powerful Distributed computing network around.

It's not BOINC that's the problem. That doesn't do any science.
It's writing a science application that will work on it.
So which science project do you have in mind?

It's not a matter of what project to have, but to have the same ability applied to the Wii the same way it is for windows, mac, and linux. Where you download the BOINC client, then choose from a list of science projects.

Perhaps so, but what operating system does the Wii use?
Any and all applications that the projects use must be ported over to that OS, as else you'll just get an error after BOINC has attached to the project, that it cannot download the application for this platform.

Even if used with an anonymous platform (app_info.xml) file, it has to be ported to the OS the Wii uses first.

Although I'm not exactly sure about the OS for the Wii, I do know that there is a version of the Opera internet browser compatible for it:

Perhaps this answers your question in at least an indirect way?

That article says that there was a version of the browser created in conjunction with Nintendo
This article gives the hardware specs, and it doesn't look to really be worth the while of projects to try and port a version of their programs for the WII.

As might have been expected, given the comparisons already made between Wii and PS3/xbox360 in the games arena.

I'm sure a lot of Wiis working together might achieve something, but I think dev time would be better spent getting a F@H BOINC equivalent or two for PS3... (although that's also mostly the responsibility of the projects to code for Cell, not easy from what people say).

The WII brew project (http://www.wiibrew.org/wiki/Main_Page) works on a Linux port .
The WII is a Power CPU based system, so it should be posible to use the existing Linux PPC BOINC client and the SETI, SIMAP and Einstein applications. - For BOINC clients and SETI apps look at boinc.berkeley.edu/download_other.php, for the other applications on the project sites..

But, I think that you also should have an look for the overheating of the system. Eventualy you need to use CPU throtteling to coold down the system.
Also, I think that the CPU would perfomans as a G4 Mac...
