when the message that says that there is no internet connectivity comes up a particularly annoying beep happens too, although not in a drive you insane way it is annoying and it does happen a lot when i bring use my laptop in an area without wi-fi. could there be an option to disable the error reports or at least the beep when it can't connect to the internet.

If Windows, then yes as it's the Windows Beep on Errors that does this.

Windows XP: Get Tweak UI (part of the Powertoys).
Install it and run it.
-General->disable "beep on errors"
Apply.
OK.

If you have an earlier version of Windows, you need Tweak UI 1.33, which can be downloaded through here.

You could also set the (advanced view) BOINC manager Activity menu to "Network activity suspended". That's the way I do it, because former versions of BOINC would hang or crash without network connection and "Network activity always available".

The beep is done by Windows whenever a message box appears, there is no way for a program to disable it for a single popup.

You could also set the (advanced view) BOINC manager Activity menu to "Network activity suspended". That's the way I do it, because former versions of BOINC would hang or crash without network connection and "Network activity always available".

Be careful with this "feature": if you set to "Network activity suspended", and click the Update button on a project, network activity will be automatically enabled for five minutes. During that period, the activity menu will still show network as disabled!
