The Additional Work option decides your queue of work, meaning how many tasks per project BOINC should hold. If you have an always on connection it depends on the projects you run to decide how big it is. I have an always on connection and am attached to over 30 projects, 12 of which are allowed to fetch work. I only ask for an additional 0.01 days of work. That's about 20 seconds of work that's asked, or just one task per project. Any prolonged outages that any project may then have, will mean I still have enough work from other projects plus I never go over the deadline set by the project. So, it really depends on if you run only one project and want lots of work from it, or that you run a couple of projects and already have plenty of work... |

i would like to ask what is the best setting of additional work buffer that will give the max perfomance and computer resources to the boinc... If there was such thing as "best setting to give max performance", it would be set by default. That setting doesn't affect performance anyway. It really just matters for people with strange scheduling needs (like a not-always-on network connection) who have actually noticed they often run out of work. |

thank u vey much!1your advise is just great!and intuitive i can say cause i had the cache set to 9!!now i turned it to 0.1 as you suggested above. if you allow me i have an another question too.in the next days i will connect my laptop with a desktop making a home-network with one screen, mouse e.t.c. is it possible to ''double''-run the boinc at the same time in the 2 different computers? +i am trying my best to spread the boinc in the greek torrent communities but very often the users seems to hesitate telling me that it s dangerous for virus or exploit attacks e.t.c. or that these projects are conducted by private agencies e.t.c. what's the best answer for these users? |
