Message 55384 - Posted: 13 Aug 2014, 15:50:05 UTC - in response to Message 55381.

I just sent their support an e-mail to let them know their project is down. The transitioner, feeder, and both upload servers are "not running." Anything BOINC related gives the "Database offline" error.

They know perfectly well that their project is down, and they've been working on it since Friday evening - as I posted on the project outages thread yesterday morning. The last thing they probably need at this time is a deluge of unsolicited email.

The latest news on the outage, 10 minutes ago, is:

I have run in a new database server, and she is currently rebuilding the databases from an SQL dump.

I hope it will be ready tomorrow morning (Thursday 14 Aug), I think everything is ready to go once the database has been rebuilt.

And it is now back up again though two servers are still down. Not sure if one of them is in use any more as it has been down for so long and everything seems to have worked well without it.

2 of the upload servers are still down. I can access everything, but there are 0 tasks ready to sent out. Probably still rebuilding the database from the SQL dump?

CPDN will have some scheduled downtime on Thursday and Friday.

This is to allow the underlying hardware to be configured to accept a tape backup system as part of the 'near-line' storage.

Jonathan will be taking the opportunity to move the database backup to a different server, to give more resilience in case of hardware failures.

The downtime ought to be no more than a few hours on Thursday, but Jonathan does acknowledge that he's said that many times before!

All of the virtualised servers will be offline briefly:

  • climateprediction.net
  • trillionthtonne.net
  • climateapps2.oerc.ox.ac.uk
  • cpdn-upload2.oerc.ox.ac.uk
  • cpdn-results2.oerc.ox.ac.uk
  • database server

Did the project servers go down? I received 3 tasks, which have since completed, but the data refuses to upload. It will say 'uploading' for about 2 or 3 minutes, upload no data, then 'attempt to retry in [several hours]'. Meanwhile I have 11 days 39 hours worth of data sitting on the computer. I don't want to abort it and have it go to waste...

Yes, but my post is buried in a Number crunching thread, where the question was asked.

1) Testing finished.
2) Present beta has been having a severe tantrum, and is refusing to be fixed.
3) Probably no more beta, at least in it's present form. More info when available.

the project will be offline from Wednesday 9th December from 10am (UK time) in order to take a snapshot of the database. This is part of the process of the re-configuration of a slave database machine. Once this snapshot process has completed we will bring the project back online again, we anticipate that this process will take a minimum of 24 hours to complete. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience.

Impending down time:

Hi All,

We will be taking the CPDN project offline for a few hours from 10am (GMT) 16th February 2016 for maintenance work on a server. This work will not affect the project website. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Best regards,

Andy

Hi All,

I am afraid there has been an issue with the main CPDN project database machine. We are currently investigating the issue. Meanwhile the project has been taken offline whilst we investigate. We hope to restore access to the project as soon as we are able to.

With regards,

Andy
