They will be forced using a new sea surface temperature data set (Operational Sea Surface Temperature and Sea Ice Analysis [OSTIA]). This data set has a high spatial and temporal resolution, which we hope will improve the simulation of storm tracks. I have uploads backing up on my machine with BOINC saying server is out of disk space. The ENSEMBLES project did involve a “grand ensemble” (climateprediction.net); however, this has so far not been used extensively for describing local and regional climate. The grand ensemble has been more appropriate for describing the global mean state and large-scale phenomena (link to experiments). Some will have learned of the slower moving Rossby waves and shift of the jetstream, moving polar air further down, pushing warmer air further up... the result seen in record Arctic melt as well as mass balance loss of the icesheet on Greenland. Maybe Miles Allen would like to play his harp more loudly. Hold your socks up, the next big El Ninô is going to cause some reverberations. ID: 46379 ·

It seems there was an unexpected and unprotected power outage over the weekend and folks there are taking advantage of the down time to do some long deferred maintenance. CPDN servers seem to be down. Not sure if this is in order to do some work or for other reasons. Over the last few days project staff have been working to stagger the restoration of services. The CPDN BOINC back-end service has now been restored and uploads should now be proceeding. These workunits build off a balanced subset of perturbed model parameter combinations used in the HadCM3N-CHAAOS experiment previously, but include an 80 year ramp up of CO2 forcing at 1% per year. These experiments are the precursor to future geoengineering experiments with HadCM3N investigating the effects of these various forcings on the hydrological cycle. Given limited progress in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and uncertain potential for adaptation to many impacts, attention in vulnerable regions and sectors is turning to the question of loss and damage. Who should bear the costs of human influence on the climate that cannot be neutralized by adaptation? So far this debate is lacking robust estimates of what these costs are. We propose to compile exemplary inventories of the impacts of such extreme weather events in the context of other drivers of regional environmental change in different regions in Africa. To reach the aim of this project, to quantify the link between a range of external climate drivers and observed high-impact weather in Africa and assess the implications for climate impacts, we will be working with scientists at the University of Reading and researchers working on climate impacts in Oxford. Thus bringing together experience in event attribution and regional modelling from the CPDN team, research into high-impact weather in Africa from Reading and experience in modelling hydrological impacts of changing climates from the School of Geography and the Environment at Oxford University. On the evening of Wednesday 20th March a hidden iframe redirect was found on a number of pages on that message board. We are currently looking into this security issue. The main portion of the CPDN website is also hosted on this server, and so this portion of the website is also offline. We hope to resolve this issue soon and restore normal services. This problem does not affect the availability or download of climate models and the upload servers are available as usual. The CPDN Team ID: 48309 ·

It is possible for new members to join the project, but at the moment it is not possible to attach computers to climateprediction.net. If you cannot attach your computer you cannot to download new climate models for the time being. If you are affected by this problem you can join other projects to keep your computer busy. In BOINC Manager in the Tools menu select Attach to project and then choose a project. ID: 48324 ·
