My main desktop computer (Vista Home) connects and downloads without any problems, but I am trying to get my laptop (XP Home) to also run Boinc but have so far been unable too... This is the message I get on the laptop...: - ----------------------------------------------------- 29/04/2008 23:37:35||Starting BOINC client version 5.10.45 for windows_intelx86 29/04/2008 23:37:35||log flags: task, file_xfer, sched_ops 29/04/2008 23:37:36||Libraries: libcurl/7.18.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8e zlib/1.2.3 29/04/2008 23:37:36||Data directory: C:Program FilesBOINC 29/04/2008 23:37:36||Processor: 1 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz [x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 7] 29/04/2008 23:37:36||Processor features: fpu tsc sse sse2 mmx 29/04/2008 23:37:36||OS: Microsoft Windows XP: Home Edition, Service Pack 2, (05.01.2600.00) 29/04/2008 23:37:36||Memory: 1021.48 MB physical, 2.41 GB virtual 29/04/2008 23:37:36||Disk: 18.62 GB total, 12.63 GB free 29/04/2008 23:37:36||Local time is UTC +1 hours 29/04/2008 23:37:36|SETI@home|URL: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID: 4340556; location: home; project prefs: default 29/04/2008 23:37:36||General prefs: from SETI@home (last modified 15-Oct-2006 03:13:58) 29/04/2008 23:37:36||Host location: home 29/04/2008 23:37:36||General prefs: no separate prefs for home; using your defaults 29/04/2008 23:37:36||Preferences limit memory usage when active to 510.74MB 29/04/2008 23:37:36||Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 919.34MB 29/04/2008 23:37:36||Preferences limit disk usage to 9.31GB 29/04/2008 23:43:28|SETI@home|Started download of setiathome_5.27_windows_intelx86.exe 29/04/2008 23:43:57|SETI@home|Finished download of setiathome_5.27_windows_intelx86.exe 30/04/2008 00:27:41|SETI@home|Started download of sah_banner_290.png 30/04/2008 00:27:46|SETI@home|Temporarily failed download of sah_banner_290.png: can't resolve hostname 30/04/2008 00:27:46|SETI@home|Backing off 3 hr 19 min 56 sec on download of sah_banner_290.png --------------------------------------------------- I have disabled my firewall etc, but still no joy, Boinc runs it just says "Downloading work from server", but it's said that all night now... Don't disable the firewall, that's about as inviting as having no doors and windows in your house. Just allow BOINC through your Windows firewall. How do you connect that laptop to the internet, directly, through a router or Windows internet sharing? Can it get onto the internet by itself? |

It connects via a wireless connection, I only tried it without the firewall etc just to see if that would cure it, but once I noticed it hadn't it went back on...:D |

No idea what's happened nor what I did, but it now seems to be working... DNS gets messed up sometimes. First thing to try is restarting Boinc. Don't just click the close button (that just minimizes the app) File->Exit |
