I am hoping someone else has had this problem and can help me correct it on my pc. I had an Athlon 64 3600+ cpu, running windows xp sp2 (32bit) and all drivers are current. I was also running BOINC manager v5.10.30 and all was working fine. I upgraded to an Athlon 64 X2 5000+ (cpu only) and I noticed that when my system went to the screensaver, it no longer shows the graphical screensavers like it did before the upgrade. The program seems to be running fine, I just have a black screen and moving the mouse or hitting a key does nothing. I can hit CTRL ALT DEL and go to task manager, then just close tm and I am ack to the desktop. So, I noticed that BOINC v5.10.45 was out so I dloaded and installed (after uninstalling first). Same problem, when my system goes to screensaver, I get a black screen (no, its not set to go to blank in settings) and ONLY a 3 fingered salute seems to bring it out of screensaver mode.

Any help/ideas?? I'm stumped. Is there a X2/dual core version of BOINC maybe?

Thanks

If you change the screensaver FROM Boinc to blank, does it work better? (i.e., do you get control back?) The screensaver portion of Boinc does no scientific work, and you can show the same thing via 'show graphics' in any case.

Yes, other screensavers work fine. BOINC is the only one that won't "release" the screensaver and go back to the desktop and NONE of the projects would activate the "show graphics" buitton. It was grayed out for all projects.

I have figured out the problem though......turns out that when I upgraded my ATI Radeon drivers and the Catalyst software, it added in Hydravision. So, I thought I'd try a 2nd monitor connected to the card and let my pc go into screensaver mode. I was surprised to see the black screen on my main monitor and the screensaver on my 2nd monitor. I reset the vid card back to one monitor and now the screensaver seems to be working correctly again.

Thanks for the help. problem solved! :-)

That sounds like a bug - Ageless, is it a known issue?

More like a feature, Mike. OpenGL 1.1 can only show graphics/screen saver on one monitor per RAMDAC. Most multi-monitor videocards have only got one RAMDAC, so you can only show OpenGL graphics on the main monitor. Perhaps in KingKoz case the primary monitor function was set to the second one, or he attached his monitor to the wrong VGA outlet.
