I am using Windows XP Professional SP2. In the "Task Bar Properties", I have "Hide Inactive Icons" checked. In the "Customize Notifications" window (Customize Button), the Boinc 5.10.30 Icon is shown with no name listed next to it. Instead, the following text is given for the name: <no title> In addition, everytime I quit and then restart Boinc Manager, the Behavior state always reverts to "Hide when inactive". I saw the same issue in 5.10.20 in 5.10.28 also. I was directed to this list to provide this information. |

Why are you hiding the BOINC Manager icon? If you don't want the icon to show, install BOINC as a service. That way BOINC runs at all times, even before Windows log on, and if you tell in the installer not to start BOINC (Manager) at Windows startup, BOINC manager won't be loaded from the Startup folder, thus no icon is showing. As for the title... none of the BOINC parts have a title in their description. I'll ask the developers why that is. |

OK, I am speaking with Rom Walton, who compiles the executables. He says the system tray bug is known and is being worked on. To be fixed some time in the future. It's not extremely high on his agenda, as there are enough more major bugs to fix before this. In the mean time, consider the service install. That's the 'official' workaround. |

OK, I am speaking with Rom Walton, who compiles the executables. Yes, it is a very minor issue. Note: I found this issue while troubleshooting another issue on my laptop. I found the <no title> and "Behavior" issue as part of the troubleshooting that I performed. I assumed that the <no title>and "Behavior" issue was also my laptop's problem. I included all the information in the hope that it might help point to a root cause of the problem, as the "Behaviour" setting returning to the default setting everytime was not apparently normal. Thanks for your help. Wayne |

I have XP, both Home and Pro, and also several versions of BOINC. BOINC has always had a name in the Taskbar Properties, (BOINC Manager), and the setting of Always show always works without having to do anything. So the setting not 'sticking' must only affect those computers where BOINC is nameless. |
