Hi,

i have downloaded boinc client on VMWare player. but am facing problems when trying to run it on the virtual machine. there is no 'run_manager'. so how do i attach to a boinc project using boinc client on this virtual machine?

There are two main alternatives - assuming that you have run_client:

* Can you use a manager on a different machine to control it? (You'll need to set up the remote auth stuff).

* Use the command-line interface (boinc_cmd or boinccmd, I think you need to specify --help to get the list of commands).

There are no problems with Boinc on VMware. I don't know which version from VM-player or which virtual appliances you have downloaded.
Normally you will find some help for using in description or man-pages or a link for help from author of your virtual appliance.
If you find or get no informations, set up your own Crunching-VM but with VM-Workstation or VM-server. Workstation costs 189$ or 140Eur, Server is free but you need a serial number therfor you have to registrate.

Running on a VM has absolutely nothing to do.

Did you get the "Older Linux x86 and x64" version, or the one with 'ubuntu' on its filename? The former doesn't come with the manager.

Does anybody have a link to both appliances. I had set up a netinstall-version from Suse64-10.2 with kernel 2.6.18 in a 5GB VM and want to try out a newer kernel or better an other distro for comparison. FC8 or K/Ubuntu would be interesting.
