I'm not sure where this should go, so I will ask here: WCG shows 360,799 members. But BOINC stats only shows 110,413 users for WCG in the BOINC statistics. Why are not more WCG folks coming over to BOINC. >>RSM http://sciencesprings.wordpress.com http://facebook.com/sciencesprings |

Make an advertisement on any of the forums at WCG. ;-) Although I think you'll get flogged by Sekerob and Didactylos, so wear fire proof undergarments. Seriously, I think that as long as WCG still allows both the UD Agent and BOINC that people already using the UD Agent won't switch over so easily. |

Some people prefer KISS over lots of options. Nothing wrong with that. The problem with UD is that it uses only one core/thread per machine. That was fine 5+ years ago. Not it just wastes processing capacity. Reno, NV Team: SETI.USA |

Some people prefer KISS over lots of options. That's why I run BOINC ;) No hassle with deep-core meddling in the OS for perticipating in various projects. Gruesse vom Saenger For questions about Boinc look in the BOINC-Wiki |

Some people prefer KISS over lots of options. Nothing wrong with that. While other things may be easier with one project, I still think BOINC is the simplest way to do multiple projects. In fact I have come to dislike projects that do not use the BOINC forums for precisely this reason, an additional sign-in and learning to use different forum software is not worth the effort most of the time. It took me long time to switch over from UD to BOINC because at the time the only project out there I cared to support was the Fight against Cancer and then protein folding. I wasn't aware of any particular benefits for BOINC (no dual cores existed) so I never bothered to switch. Now with there being more projects out there I care about (rosetta, namely) and the support for multiple cores I am a staunch BOINC believer. |

Some people prefer KISS over lots of options. Nothing wrong with that. Wouldn't a WCG's personalized BOINC, started in Simple view, be a good approximation to this? (I've no idea how it actually looks like.) Peter |

I wasn't aware of any particular benefits for BOINC (no dual cores existed) so I never bothered to switch. It is to my understanding that WCG is only supporting BOINC for future projects released. If my overall understanding is correct those with the UD clients will either be transferring to BOINC or lost if they are unaware of this change and once those projects cease we may see more users coming to BOINC. |
