Thanks for that useful link. In the project server status list, the BBC Climate Change Experiment server shows as unreachable. It is in fact up and as far as I know there haven't been any recent outages there: http://bbc.cpdn.org/server_status.php But the BBC CCE project is closed to new members. The ClimatePrediction beta project shows as unreachable. It's been relaunched as a new project (call it CPDN Beta2) and now has a new address: http://cpdnbeta.oerc.ox.ac.uk/ (If anyone's thinking of joining the new CPDN beta, it's only worthwhile if you're prepared to make frequent backups, investigate crashes and post about them on the forum......and at the moment it isn't awarding credits!) |

QNCALPHA Be very careful about joining this one! It can seriously mess up your BOINC general preferences and turn a happy day into a lousy one! |

QNCALPHA Be very careful about joining joining ANY new project. It can seriously mess up your whole computer. I see lots of people attaching new projects as fast as computer noobs click on the "yes, accept the ActiveX object installation and turn my machine into a spam relay". The same consequences are possible. Attaching a BOINC project has the same security implications as downloading programs from Internet - because that's exactly what happens on the background when attaching. Untrusted project ≈ software from untrusted source. Of course I'm not saying this about QCN (their software is "safe", even if probably buggy for now). It's just a general warning. PS: the preference stuff is written in red text on QCN frontpage. If you missed that... |
