Boy, can I pick 'em. SETI's now uploaded. No work sent yet since last week, but all the uploads are gone. The server status shows all green. Cosmology - same. No work sent and the server status is all green. Milkyway - same. No work sent and all green. lhc - just no work. There's a note to that effect on their page. Predictor - no work in the foreseeable future. Einstein - well, happy days are here! I have work and am crunching merrily. |

Technically not an outage, but close to it anyway as it may seem like it to you: CPDN has an IP address change happening. milo wrote: There's a big change of IP address in progress, affecting OeRC only. This means that at some point you may see temporary outages as systems are changed over. Hopefully there will be very little disruption. The machines that you're most likely to see change are: Normally this could take 24 hours. |

Has anyone else found Tanpaku to be MIA? One of my systems has a WU that completed OK, but has now gone overdue because it can't communicate with the website. Likewise, attempts to connect to http://issofty17.is.noda.tus.ac.jp/ with a browser fail, and aiming a telnet client at issofty17.is.noda.tus.ac.jp port 80 yields no connection. |

Has anyone else found Tanpaku to be MIA? One of my systems has a WU that completed OK, but has now gone overdue because it can't communicate with the website. Check this link out http://www.esea.dk/esea/boincschedulers.php. Think I saw a brief note somewhere yesterday about a university network to go down for maintenance, so the outage should be time limited. Coelum Non Animum Mutant, Qui Trans Mare Currunt ![]() |

CPDN Beta (re Ageless's post 3 above this) There's a big change of IP address in progress affecting OeRC which is the CPDN Beta address. This change is scheduled to take place at about 10.00 UTC on Friday 22 August. There may be some temporary outages as systems are changed over. Ananas says Under certain circumstances (not on all systems!), BOINC seems to cache the IPs forever. Apologies for the late notification of the exact time of the changeover. |

What's going on with Superlink at Technion? They've been completely down for two days now. Even their website is down. |

LHC@home From what they say in the last paragraph of this page, is it possible that they are planning ongoing work and possibly new applications for LHC@home?: http://athome.web.cern.ch/athome/LHCathome/history.html Based on the following information, the whole site and project went offline in the early hours of 25 August: http://bluenorthernsoftware.com/scarecrow/lhcstats/index.html (See the 7-day graph and data table for Results in Progress.) It would be appreciated if one of the guys at LHC@home would let us know what is going on. mo.v is very good about letting us know what is happening at CPDN. |

PS3GRID/GPUGRID The server is down. I don't know what's wrong, and I am not going to know until Monday morning because the server is not were I can access on Sundays. They were doing electrical works on Monday, maybe they have messed something up. ![]() |

The Cosmology@Home server is off line, possibly due to a power-outage. Because of Labor Day it wasn't noticed until now. Scott is on his way to fix things. |

Has any one got news on the outage for project Tanpaku? They have been down since Aug 18 and have posted the following message: Dear all of TANPAKU volunteers, TANPAKU server has been down from August 18th accidentally. Now we are repairing the server. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.

More on Cosmology@Home: Scott Kruger wrote: This seems pretty mysterious. The disks themselves are fine (both mount OK separately), and the RAID array mounts fine via LiveCD, but the server refuses to mount the RAID array on boot. I'm checking the filesystem right now and will give you an update when it's done. |

Even more on Cosmology@Home: Scott Kruger wrote: After the longest fsck I've ever seen, the filesystem was fixed and I was able to get the machine to boot properly. Tomorrow morning, I should have everything back up. So that's somewhere today that we expect Cosmo to be back up & running. |

Well, the site's back up. That must be the first step. The WUs I completed 4 or 5 days ago are due today, so I wonder if they'll be credited, dropped, cancelled, accepted, deleted, or ignored. Wait and see ! 03/09/2008 1:39:55 PM|Cosmology@Home|Message from server: Project is temporarily shut down for maintenance |

The database is still down. Luckily that means that the validator is also not running, so until the database is available again, there should be no problem. |

Over the last year or so there has been a lot of projects that have stopped running for some reason or other. Obviously Tanpaku has issues at the minute, but a lot of the time participants don't know if the project, such as orbit, is still active. Even when you look at their websites, you cant tell. Some may simply have reached their natural life span, some may be between batches of work, but many seem to have just stopped without warning. It is not productive to have thousands of computers sitting idle, sometimes for many months on end. It might be an idea for Boinc to create a senior support site, to help out struggling projects by intervening when necessary to receive data and provide support and advice. There are pages that link to active projects, but Boinc might want to advance on that. Project partnering might be an idea. If Boinc matches projects up, and where one fails the other can become active, to receive data, and create more work. Sort of like having 2 DHCP servers in case of failure. |

I think skgiven's post should be moved to a thread of its own because the points raised deserve more discussion than they will probably receive here; this thread is really just a list of outages. My next post will bring this thread to 200 messages. It's quite slow to open now. What about also starting a new #2 thread for project outages? |

CPDN main project One of the upload servers has been down but it's now up and running again. An extra server has been ordered for CPDN which is good news. |
