When I went to install the newest stable version (5.10.28) I encountered a roadblock with the service install option. In the Service Account Credentials screen, there is "Username: <Domain><Username>". On previous versions this Username: box was already filled. I tried entering what I thought used to appear there but am not making any headway. How do find out the relevant info? I tried to reinstall the previous versions 5.10.20 and 5.8.16 with the same results.

(I've tried the Skype volunteer route already w/o success.)

What to fill in there is this:

COMPUTERNAME\USERNAME

Notice the backslash between them.

Thanks Jord, I'll it a try. I noticed also that I forgot to type a backslash in my original post.

Ok, it's a go. The <Domain> = COMPUTERNAME is what threw me for a loop. Any idea on why it has "<Domain>/<Username>" instead of automatically filling in the relevant info? Since it did the same when I tried installing previous versions, I'm under the assumption that it has something to do on my end.

Not a clue really. Some Windows protection by which programs aren't allowed to lookup the hostname/username? Or you didn't use an administrator account?

I am using an admin account so, no. To clarify on my earlier post, I had no problem with the Username: box being filled out automatically on earlier BOINC installs (only today when I tried 5.10.28, 5.10.20, and 5.8.16 in that order). The protection aspect is plausible though but I have no idea what may have changed and when (this box gets used as testbed quite a bit). Oh well, it's all good and I'll know in the future. Thanks for the help.

Probably not.

The forum loves backslashes so much that it eats them when you edit a page a second time.

It eats those from reply quotes (even within code tags) as well, it's a real backslash junkie.

Weird.

I noticed months ago at Einstein@home, that editing my profile would sometimes cause mysterious backslashes (or maybe it was forward slashes) to appear (multiply - one would become two) on edits. I don't know if it still happens. Hmmmm, maybe that is where the slashes gravitate to.
