I am a new user. I have use a dial-up modem, and I run Windows XP. BOINC seems to work fine as long as I am connected to my ISP. When I am not connected, transfers don't work, although I have I have set the preferences to NOT require confirmation before dialing, and I have listed my ISP as the default connection.

I get messages like those below, over and over. When I manually connect to my ISP, all the transfers get done immediately.

I have listed my ISP as the default connection

When you say listed as default connection, do you mean in IE options or in BOINC options?

To check the BOINC options, go to Advanced View then:
Select from drop menues 'Advance' > 'Options' > 'Connection Tab'
Make sure that your ISP is select as default here.

Per Wiki: http://www.boinc-wiki.info/Can't_resolve_hostname_'(host-name)'_host_not_found

Well, that's not very useful. The reason for the message is that he is disconnected from Internet, so it's quite obvious hostnames won't resolve. The problem is he set BOINC to automatically connect to Internet, and it's not doing so.
