I do love flowers! How fortunate I am!! My serendipity knows no bounds!!! I don't know who to thank but will now delve for hidden clues......

This must be my lucky forum thread. A thousand thanks for starting it, Ageless. I've resolved to post here again next year.

Should I lock it until then? ;-)

What, close the forum's most long-lasting thread?!

As Kathryn said, the guys all deserve some chocolates before the end of the day.

This Sunday March 2 is Mother's Day in the UK. I'm desperately hoping my two sons won't forget about me. Three years ago only my younger son remembered, two years ago only my older son did, and last year both forgot me. Has anyone got any ideas about how I can subtly remind them without them noticing that I'm reminding them?

Rattle their houses more forcefully, or if they use BOINC, point them in the direction of Carl's new project and then mention you know this guy.

It may not help with getting you a present, but they'll know you exist. ;-)

They won't run BOINC projects, but they do donate their old computers to me so that I can.

I've sent them both an email:

My beloved sons

Meet on the heath.

Ever your

loving Mother

Because their inboxes are usually full of hundreds of unread messages, it's a problem getting them to read an email from me. So the title line is 'Urgent - from Loving Mother'.

Do you think the subliminal message will galvanise them into action?

Nah

You might eventually get a message asking "Which heath?" And why?

I've rarely had such a rapid response from either son. Just received this email:

Mum, what in heaven's name is happening to you? Did you mean heath or health? Do you feel OK? I've just ordered a really useful book for you from Amazon. It's called Looking After Yourself in Old Age and contains 1000 practical tips. No need to pay me for it - it's my little gift for Mother's Day.

Your loving son XXXXX

Isn't that sweet of him? I knew in my heart he wouldn't forget me.

Looking After Yourself in Old Age

No, but apparently he wants to do so after he's given you that book, as you're expected to be able to finally stand on your own two feet with help of the book. ;-)

Isn't it gratifying when your children care for you so deeply and send you emails and gifts?

Well! That worked out rather well.
I think.

At least you now have them worried about you, so maybe they'll keep in touch more often.

The thread doesn't have to be a slow crawl. This could yet rival the threads of 1000+ posts on the immensely popular and successful SETI forum.

The thread just needs to be renamed. I suggest Ageless could redesignate it 'Speling and Grammaticle Advise' where the many boincers from any BOINC forum who can't tell whether their spellchecker has got it write or wrong could check with us before posting.

That way, the worst spelers will stand the best chance of winning and for once be at an advantage, thus correcting one of life's most egregious injustices.
