BOINC Manager Linux should use desktop themes. It looks really awful, the fonts are badly aliased, dull grey GUI components. It looks like from an old windows toolkit.
BOINC 7.2.42 (x86_64) on Linux Ubuntu 16.04 (64 Bit), AMD APU 7850K 3.7 GHz, 32 GB RAM.

Some small things really. I think it's a very good program and it also progresses quite fast (started using it one month ago and have already been able to upgrade a couple of numbers since).

* When going to the 'tasks' tab, the focus should automatically go to the task that is running, or the running task should be colored or something. When you have a lot of tasks in the line, it is nice to see immediately which task is running.

* Statistics should also show the results of projects not attached anymore. I think this has been suggested in the other thread.

* The total credit should be shown somewhere, for instance in the 'projects' tab, there is the work done for every project. It would be nice to sum it up, and to also show how much work was done on projects that are not attached anymore.

* Maybe also a way to manually set the limits for X and Y of the graph in 'statistics'. Personally I haven't had the need for this option, but who knows somebody else..?

This is not that bad, maybe the color or some marker at the side would be better than selection - imagine you have a quad core or even more - you get few tasks automatically selected...

What's really bad with the selections - the selected task/project/transfer does not keep selected, but the n-th line instead. If some "object of selection" progresses fast, it is sometimes nearly impossible to keep it selected in order to press any of the context buttons on the side. The "object" runs away to another line and another "object" gets selected on the former line. (e.g. - try to suspend a Superlink WU, if it's progress% or CPU time jumps here and there - the task jumps in the list too.)

Which is the exact reason I keep my sorted on project :)

I'd like BOINC to run the CPU at 90% while the computer is in use and 100% when it is not. It seems we have that kind of latitude on memory, but not the CPU that I have found.

This may seem strange, but I would like a client feature to NOT download new work when attaching to a project. A feature in cc_config.xml would be idea. Perhaps this should be a command line switch on the boinc client itself too.

1) I would like this feature because I have needed to detach/re-attach to a project in an effort to restore it to a working state.
2) Downloading the project files would be OK, just no work units.
3) It would prevent a computer id from being generated and work being assigned to the computer.

If there is already this feature, please tell me!

v5.8.16 changes its look with the current GNOME desktop theme. I guess they added it. :)

I'd like to see the Total Disk Usage pie chart divided into four instead of current 3 cakes - the free disk space part would be divided into parts "usable by BOINC" and "reserved for other programs", according to the venue's settings.

Currently the basic user may have hard time to find out, what portion of disk space is usable by Boinc projects according to the venue settings and current disk allocation state on particular computer. The only moments Boinc is telling this info are after the startup and after rereading changed global settings. But it is "hidden somewhere among the (initial) messages", what can be easily overlooked and could be either not available after the messages fill up, or not true anymore, when the disk fills up. And there's already such prominent place to show the information - in the Total Disk Usage table :-)

This is a good idea.........I hate setting up a new project and immediately getting WUs based on a default resource share from the new project.

I hate setting up a new project and immediately getting WUs based on a default resource share from the new project.

That's one of the reasons (to tailor my account's prefs) why I'm still using the project web pages' account creation form. (And hope to be able to use it in the future, so far on only one or two projects it did not work correctly.) But a flag to suppress getting new work would be fine.

The workaround, for now, would be in the case of detach-reattach needs to set the resource share on the project at e.g. 1 prior to reattaching. You'd not get anything except for the app, gifs etc.

I suspect that even with resource share = 1 Boinc would possibly request 1 second of work. But something like RS=0 could also auomatically mean NNT for Boinc and cause downloading only the additional files - would be nice.

BUT, the crux is, the moment you attach to a project initiates an automatic 1 second work call regardless. It's not a client feature, but a server initiative :O

If Boinc would automatically set each project (upon attaching) temporarily to NNT, for say 5 seconds (unless any RPC will touch the settings), then such nice little script would solve it correctly. Even the Boinc "Project attach" dialog (if started from the Advanced GUI) could contain a "nomorework" checkbox... (is probably up to the self-compiling folks)

Errr ... I have 5.10.8 ... and other than the window border/frame, nothing looks like the normal GNOME GUI components. Here is a 1:1 screenshot (non-scale = original pixel by pixel shot):

Looks awful, doesn't it? If at least the font would be smoother...

Heh...

Wish mine looked that good. But I can't blame BOINC. I still need to figure out how to get Ubuntu to display for the monitor's native resolution.

Does that give the options you need?

I had found that menu. But my screen resolution isn't on there. It's a widescreen that's 1280 x 800. Best option is 1024 x 768.

On mine the options are not sorted......I have an 1152 X 768 down at the bottom. I use that on a couple of remote machines that don't have monitors.

It looks like BOINC uses the system default font instead of the themed font. I haven't experimented with fonts in GNOME nor the 5.10.x client, so I'm sorry I don't have a solution to the font problem.

Perhaps you should start a new thread somewhere regarding the fonts with 5.10.x clients, rather than in the wish list thread. Others may be able to help.

I have a minor eye-wash issue.

When you boot and BOINC Manager is loaded, the B-icon is present in the system tray in WinXp. However, it does not have a title, so it soon disappears.

I like to have it always showing. If it had a title, I could set my preferences once and forget it.

Running with 5.10.18, WinXP. Like the new icon! I have a minor issue with the Boinc manager, though. When it starts up, it does not remember its placement on the screen (it never has, even though it saves this info), and since 5.10.17 (maybe a version or two earlier), it no longer remembers its size.
