Hi,

I posted several problems/questions under the boinc manager section under the thread "tap tap is this thing on"
http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=193

Manager has dead buttons, when I click on any & all of the "Web Sites" buttons, nothing happens. No link, nothing in the window; zilch, nada zip. Same for hitting F1 same for help with the exception that it will show me the version # but nothing related to help or web pages happen.

I have both Firefox and IE6 installed using XP SP2 with the updates.

I'm switching to an Opteron dual processor tomorrow on a different computer, I'd like to set BOINC on it if it will play nice but so far it's an insolent little Napolean.

Any cluse of what I can do? as it is, I am totally at the default level with no way to change anything.

I know this is not right.

Thanks,

Gary

There has been discussion on the boards before of problems with the Linux version of BOINC not launching the web browser, but all of the problems I've seen with Windows have related to it not opening a new window, but instead "taking over" the currently open window. That is a preference in Internet Explorer, nothing BOINC has any control over. I don't know why it wouldn't work on your PC - when you install on the new PC, can you see if BOINC launches the browser BEFORE you do any "custom" installs (ie; Firefox, etc.) just using the stock Windows installation? If it works then, but not after you do your customizing, then I would assume it's something happening with your add-on work. BOINC just calls the normal Windows "open this URL" operating system calls, nothing unusual, same way most other programs do it.

You probably do need RAS and libcurl libraries installed - these are installed automatically by Windows, but possibly you've removed them?

If you look at the Wiki you can find answers to most BOINC related questions, including web URLs for all of the projects. I personally just bookmarked the specific pages I use most often, and never use the buttons provided by BOINC. In fact, I just used one for the first time in V5.2.7 when checking to make sure that MINE worked, after reading your posting!

I've also addressed your SETI issues, on the other thread...
