Hello.. This is my first post here, I hope I'm posting in the right place. Well, straight to business:

I can't run rosetta@home at all; It gives me the following messages:

------

14.4.2007 21:47:46|rosetta@home|Message from server: No work sent
14.4.2007 21:47:46|rosetta@home|Message from server: (there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated)
14.4.2007 21:47:46|rosetta@home|Message from server: Not enough disk space (only 82.6 MB free for BOINC). Review preferences for minimum disk free space allowed.

------

Now, I've tried setting resource share up - didn't help. I tried setting more available space, from 1GB to 2GB, but clearly, it isn't using even that much.

I tried to set it manually from prefences on my computer, with no results. It worked fine for a long time but then the issue just came up out of nowhere.

Can you help me? Is there any other way to allocate more disk-space to BOINC and/or separate projects? It's a little odd to me that you can't configure it straight from the program settings either..
Oh, and as it propably is clear but yeah I run seti@home too, rosetta isn't my only project. But as said, there was no problems earlier with this.

Anyway, thanks for any response in advance.

Please post your disk and memory settings preferences for Rosetta.
Please also post your actual hard drive space, how much you have left and if BOINC runs from a partition or not.

-----

Disk and memory usage

Use at most: 1 GB disk space
Leave at least: 0.1 GB disk space free
Use at most: 20% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every: 60 seconds
Use at most: 40% of page file (swap space)
Use at most: 50% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most: 90% of memory when computer is idle

-----

I have a 70Gb hard drive, BOINC runs from the same drive as Windows. About 22Gb of the drivespace is free.

Your problem is probably here. How much disk space is Boinc currently taking?

Not only that.

Use at most: 1 GB disk space
Use at most: 20% of total disk space
Use at most: 40% of page file (swap space)

Those have to be taken in as well.

Total disk space is 70GB. Do you mean you have a 70GB hard drive? What is the total disk space according to Windows?

Leave 20% of that number as free space, compare that to your 22Gb free.
How much is taken up by the page file? What is the minimum and the maximum set by the page file?

Well the HD itself is actually 80Gb. WIndows says, it's (precisely)74,5Gb.

As for the page file, I have no idea. I recall the windows swap is about 2GB in size but I have no other info about it. And as stated, the BOINC is currently using only 83MB at most = 14.4.2007 21:47:46|rosetta@home|Message from server: Not enough disk space (only 82.6 MB free for BOINC).

It's the other way round I think - Boinc isn't using 82.6MB, that's how much it thinks is left to play with (i.e., if Boinc had 150MB originally available, has used 100MB, then it'd be reporting 50MB as free for boinc).

As Sekerob says, use Windows Explorer to find out the amount used (or you can look at the Disk tab, leftmost pie chart, for a less accurate report).

Sigh.. Okay, I have no idea why this isn't working.. I have done as you said. I set the swapfile/virtual/whatever to 1000-3000, granted BOINC more space (20Gb), given it permission to use at most 80% of it, and leave at least 2gb free. Still I just keep getting the following error:

16.4.2007 13:58:18|rosetta@home|Message from server: Not enough disk space (only 82.9 MB free for BOINC). Review preferences for minimum disk free space allowed.
Is there any way I could "force" it to claim more space for use?

Do you know if the preferences update has been downloaded to your PC yet? (you can force this by highlighting the Seti project in your projects tab, and clicking 'update').

I also have this problem but it is occuring with climateprediction

I have updated to the very latest BOINC version 5.8.16

Here are the messages I receive;
12/05/2007 8:52:00 a.m.|climateprediction.net|Sending scheduler request: To fetch work
12/05/2007 8:52:00 a.m.|climateprediction.net|Requesting 86400 seconds of new work
12/05/2007 8:52:15 a.m.|climateprediction.net|Scheduler RPC succeeded [server version 509]
12/05/2007 8:52:15 a.m.|climateprediction.net|Message from server: No work sent
12/05/2007 8:52:15 a.m.|climateprediction.net|Message from server: (there was work but you don't have enough disk space allocated)
12/05/2007 8:52:15 a.m.|climateprediction.net|Message from server: No disk space (YOU must free 436.2 MB before BOINC gets space). Review preferences for minimum disk free space allowed.
12/05/2007 8:52:15 a.m.|climateprediction.net|Deferring communication for 1 hr 0 min 0 sec

My settings at climateprediction.net website General Preferences are
Use at most: 2 GB disk space
Leave at least: 0.5 GB disk space free
Use at most: 10% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every: 120 seconds
Use at most: 70% of page file (swap space)
Use at most: 50% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most: 90% of memory when computer is idle

I have forced the Update from BOINC many times but nothing changes

My C: drive has 16.2Gb free space (per File Explorer) which is confirmed in the BOINC Disk Usage (left) pie. The right pie (disk usage by BOINC Projects) shows climateprediction using 589.88Mb and siti@home 2.3Mb

Hoping someone can help as nothing is running right now....

The left pie graph presumably shows 592MB used by Boinc, 16GB free, but how much total space on the disk? What is the resource share for CPDN?

What happens if you change:
Use at most: to 5GB
Leave at least: 0.5 GB disk space free
Use at most: to 20%

I'm not sure of the fine details of the disk space calculation, but it might be counting memory used in the disk space calculation (i.e., swap space). It also might be looking at resource share too (i.e., CPDN only allowed 50% of the disk space available to Boinc).

I set my pref to this regardless what size HD I have.

Disk and memory usage
Use at most 100 GB disk space
Leave at least
(Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored) 0.1 GB disk space free
Use at most 50% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every 60 seconds
Use at most 75% of page file (swap space)
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8 and greater 50% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most
Enforced by version 5.8 and greater 90% of memory when computer is idle

I have never had that message come up after changing to the above. :)

I seem to have resolved this problem although exactly how is still a bit of a mystery. I won't know for sure because it's refusing to pick up a new work package for another 21 hours - Apparently I've used my quote for today but the first test seemed to work OK so I'm confident ;-)

My settings are now
Use at most: 10 GB disk space
Leave at least: 0.1 GB disk space free
Use at most: 10% of total disk space
Write to disk at most every: 60 seconds
Use at most: 70% of page file (swap space)
Use at most: 50% of memory when computer is in use
Use at most: 90% of memory when computer is idle

Free Disk Space is 16.27Gb
Used by BOINC is 2.84Mb
Used by other programs is 15.05Gb

I actually ended up detaching both Seti@Home and Climateprediction projects (the only 2 I have) and reattaching them. First I did Seti@Home and it started up OK. ClimatePrediction's was attached next and it's no longer telling me I don't have enough disk space but as mentioned above, is currently suspecded for 20hrs!

Here's the Climeteprediction log from today;

Well I spoke too soon! When my Internet Providor finally worked out what I'm paying him for (ie reliable Internet access......), ClimatePrediction came back with the same old error message

23/05/2007 10:17:25 p.m.|climateprediction.net|Message from server: Not enough disk space (only 180.2 MB free for BOINC). Review preferences for minimum disk free space allowed.

So I tried William's settings.....same problem, same numbers.

I've run out of ideas. I'm convinced there's a bug lurking here but don't know where to go to get it fixed ;-(

Seems I'll have to give up my hopes of helping to save the planet (climateprediction) and invest all my cpu efforts into finding aliens (seti@home) and try to book a ticket out of here before we all drown ;-)

Pity really
Regards Peter

What is the size of your hard drive? Not just free space, but total size as well?

Harddrive is 31.3Gb - this is where BOINC is installed
Free is 16.1Gb
Used is 15.1Gb

I also have a D: Drive @ 76.3Gb
Free is 64Gb
Used is 12.2

And a USB-attached Maxtor L: @ 279GB
Free is 223Gb
Used is 56Gb

So, as you can see I'm flush with free disk space.....if only BOINC/climateprediction would find it!!

Happy to try any recommended setting combinations you suggest

BOINC will only use the disk space of the drive it is installed on. Any other drives it won't recognize as free space for itself.

I take it you are using these settings now?
Disk and memory usage
Use at most 100 GB disk space
Leave at least
(Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored) 0.1 GB disk space free
Use at most 50% of total disk space

If you are, try these numbers:
Use at most 5GB
Leave at least 0.1GB
Use at most 90% (of total disk space.. since 50% of 31GB is 15.5GB and your numbers are precariously close to them, especially when your page file is on that same drive and it can grow...)

Open your boinc folder.
find the file global_prefs_overwrite and delete it. then you are able to get everything right. i just had the same problem myself.
