I have just bought a new computer with Vista on it and I am becoming fairly depressed since it will not run boinc. It says 'Driver components mis-match. Exit is the only option.' I would like to fix it but I am way out of my depth. I just want to see the screensaver but it is not happening. :(
Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

As far as I know, BOINC doesn't use any drivers, so whatever the message means, it's probably a Vista thing. Isn't there that security thing in Vista that if it finds a wrong driver somewhere on someone's system in this world, that it will block that driver for all computers out there that use that hardware/driver?

I'd say, complain with Microsoft, or ask on a technical forum.

in XP if you right-click 'My Computer' and then go to 'Manage' you're taken to the computer management console. Assuming it's the same in Vista, then under 'Device Manager' you should see all of the devices on your computer. Any driver problems should stand out there...

I would presume it's a graphics card driver problem if you're trying to run the screensaver though. Try updating your graphics card drivers. If you're not sure where to get them then let us know what graphics card you've got and we'll find a link.

This is the page you need to download your driver from (assuming you're running the 32-bit version of Vista and not the 64-bit version - you'd probably know if you were running 64-bit!)

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_100.65.html

Install that and let us know how you get on after.

Thanks Danny,
The computer shop have rebuilt my comp for me with much better graphics card, so we are nearly there. However, the blighter won't let it run on startup! Needs a signature. I have d'loaded the risky version of boinc which claims is slightly better vista comp. Any thoughts?
