Hi all

I have heard that ATI graphics cards can be used with other computer grid platforms such as the Folding@Home application (in fact there is now even a PlayStation 3 client!!) and now Nvidia have started proactively supporting such uses of their GPUS (see http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cuda.html) but does anyone have any more info on the subject; namely:

1) Will there have to be any changing to the BOINC core client (i suspect yes)?
2) Are there any BOINC projects which already take advantage of this untapped computer resource?

The little i know about GPUs is that they are incredibly fast at 3d related maths calculations, therefore certain BOINC projects science applications would be seriously improved if taking advantage of these processors.

Not everything that a CPU can do is possible on a GPU. Most projects can't take advantage of it, and those who can would need a complete rewrite.

Those who can take advantage of it can already do it, I don't think the BOINC client needs any modification.
