I use dial-up and get up to 33.6kpbs. I bought a brand new pentium IV with a 3 ghz & VISTA last month and have had nothing but problems trying to download/upload workunits for SETI and Einstein. I have MSN as my ISP. I did not have any problems with my old system (Celeron) which used the same MSN account. If you look at my account in SETI and Einstein you will see many download failures caused by the client. I even had my machine off last night and when I restarted the workunits I had already failed to compute. Here is what my message tab looks like with some of the messages I copied.

I know dial up is slow but normally a 15mb file takes about 3 hours. I started a download last night and it was at over ten hours.

Anybody have any ideas. Thanks

The files are apparently being downloaded incorrectly...

While trying to solve this, or at least figure out what's the cause, I suggest detaching from Einstein, as that project has too big files.

I don't have Vista, so this is just a guess, but I have read on several forums that BOINC doesn't work well if it is installed in the Program Files folder. Vista's security doesn't like writes occurring in the Programs Files folder and BOINC writes quite a bit to it's folder(s). I'm not sure of when the MD5 is calculated on the local level. If it is done after the file is written to disk, that may be the problem. You could try running BOINC from C:\BOINC to see if that helps.

Moving it to the C directory did not work caused BOINC to go "BOINC"

What were the error(s) you got after moving it to the C: drive? (I hope you didn't actually install it into c:\ :-) )

That means you had problems with your internet connection. Maybe your firewall had to be re-configured to allow boinc.exe, now that it's on a different path?

EDIT: I should have read whole thread clearly; it didn't work on old path either...
