Boinc Manager V7.24.1
OS: Kubuntu 24.04

I have manager set to suspend when computer is in use. Mostly it does. But sometimes it does not.

It is NOT project dependent. I run World Community Grid MCM, Asteroids@home, Universe@home,
and Rosetta@home. It happens on all of them.

It generally happens after my computer has been running continuously for a few days or weeks, with BOINC
running as expected the entire time, until it doesn't.

Restarting my system generally solves the problem. But sometimes I need to complete something I am doing
before restarting. In those instances I will attempt to manually suspend or abort the running task.

Manual suspend does not always work. Sometimes even after I manually suspend them, the status will show
"task suspended by user" but the progress keeps incrementing and my system is laggy.

Often when I select a task in order to suspend it manually, there is a delay of 20-30 seconds in the the 'suspend'
button appearing.

The 'abort' button is always at the ready. Aborting a task always works.

Notably after a system restart, the tasks that previously ran on, run normally per settings.

As an aside, if you search the forums for "suspend", you will find messages about similar behavior going back
10 years. So I'm not really expecting there to be some fix that I can implement. I'm posting mainly to bring
attention to it and hopefully provide some useful information. I think it's a bug that's basically a fossil at this point.

I'm glad it's not just me, and I'm frustrated that is issue is still a problem. I have experienced this for year and had stopped installing the Boinc software when replacing and upgrading my computers (mostly Linux boxes). I recently installed the software on my Linux development machine (Ubuntu 24.04) and this morning had to reboot to get the machine to allow me to continue my session - the screensaver would not recognize that I was active again.

This computer is an ideal machine on which to run projects for Boinc because it sits idle most of the time while I'm working on other machines. But failing to suspend work when I come back to the machine is a fatal error. I'll be suspending all current tasks and uninstalling Boinc.

As an aside, I also can't find a way to delete several past machines on which I ran Boinc even though I've gotten rid of those computers. They haven't been active for several years, which the Boinc project regularly reminds me via email, but they don't seem to have a way to remove those inactive machines from their (or my) record. Ugh...

Each project has its own rules regarding removal of "retired" computers from one's account. Some present an option when you are looking at a computer that can be removed, while others do not allow removal, others you have to contact the project directly.

(Personal aside: I don't see the point of removing a computer as it can give you an insight into how your computers and their use have changed over time.)

For example, CPDN does not let computers be removed because sometimes the scientists want the data about the machines tasks have run on.

Thanks for the insight. I generally agree but I don't need an email to remind me that those old computers I sent to the landfill years ago haven't contacted the project in 2000+ days.
