Should Virtual Box be uninstalled before installing Docker/Podman? Am I understanding correctly: Podman is a _substitute_ for Docker? (ie - don't install both?) Which version of Podman do I install: Desktop or CLI? Thanks! |

If you are running something that needs Virtual Box, then you need to keep it, otherwise you can remove it. At present (AFAIK) there is only one test project making use of Docker, at this stage. Grant Darwin NT. |

In reply to Grant (SSSF)'s message of 6 Sep 2025: If you are running something that needs Virtual Box, then you need to keep it, otherwise you can remove it. I uninstalled Virtual Box in my attempt to get Docker running under 8.2.4. How can I get it back/what version should I be looking for? Thanks David |

For the moment, I am keeping VB rather than going down the docker route. If my projects start using docker then and only then will I go down that route. |

In reply to Dave's message of 23 Nov 2025: For the moment, I am keeping VB rather than going down the docker route. If my projects start using docker then and only then will I go down that route. OK. Definitely a good course of action. But now that I followed the BOINC messaging and deleted VB, how do I recover it? |

In reply to Dr Who Fan's message of 24 Nov 2025: Download and install the latest version (7.2.4) from Oracle Virtual Box As for VirtualBox 7.2.4 some users report a load of x+1 cores for VMs configured for x cores. https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?t=114175 The suggested workaround is to downgrade to v7.2.2. I can confirm this for Linux hosts running vbox tasks from LHC@home. |
