Wouldn't it be amazing if BOINC came with your OS even as an optional install? I have already contacted Apple. I'm in the process of looking up contact information for Microsoft and Linux distros. |

Ok, I posted about it here. https://www.reddit.com/r/BOINC/comments/4vj7gn/why_hasnt_someone_created_a_linux_distro/ As I do not currently use Linux, I am not posting on any disto boards. Maybe someone who uses Linux would like to recommend an out of the box BOINC installation to their distro. |

In reply to SJ Breier's message of 19 Feb 2025: Wouldn't it be amazing if BOINC came with your OS even as an optional install?IMHO- No. There is plenty of bloatware as it is, particularly with big name systems and laptops. Any half-savvy user ignores or deletes such things as a part of setting their system up, and i personally don't even bother to check what the software is even for. It just goes straight on to my personal "ignore and avoid as rubbish" list. Grant Darwin NT. |

In reply to SJ Breier's message of 19 Feb 2025: Wouldn't it be amazing if BOINC came with your OS even as an optional install? No. It would not be set up how I want it. I give /var/lib/boinc its own partition. Older distributions it would have been /var/lib/boinc-client. On Linux I don't want my BOINC data in the same directory as my system. Most distributions, it is possible to install it through the graphical interface from the repositories so no more difficult to install than any other software that isn't included as standard. |
