Just saw on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/BOINC/comments/1heqgsw/is_boinc_dying_or_dead_already/. Some rightly asks for clarifications and so i do: https://www.reddit.com/r/BOINC/comments/1heqgsw/comment/m274hdm/. What's going on? Only 2 papers for real in 2024? |

What's going on? Only 2 papers for real in 2024?CPDN has two this year I know that if not published yet there is at least one more active piece of research going on there that will result in one. Not long ago there was the announcement about the Rosetta@home leader wining a Nobel prize. I suspect some with greater knowledge than I about other projects could point to more. I suspect this is a nonsense post on Redit by someone who has not bothered to check how many papers have been published that involve BOINC computing. |

I have updated our CPDN list. Rosetta@home publications could be added from https://www.bakerlab.org/publications/ but BOINC-based computing acknowledgements are sometimes not easily determined. |

It feels like there's not a lot of growth - despite more and more people around the world having access to spare computing power. And more and more of this spare computer power. With World Community Grid ... having difficulties ... there's not been a lot of new high-traffic research in medical field outside existing projects. I've been crunching for nearly 13 years but I can't help but feel the future is cloudy. |

Thank you Contact for updating the list. I value publications more than credits, so it's essential to keep that page always up to date. |

Thank you, Luca. It's my pleasure to maintain the list. If you, or anyone, come across publications that belong on our list, please let me know. |

In reply to Contact's message of 16 Dec 2024: Thank you, Luca. It's my pleasure to maintain the list. I have checked the sites of the projects I crunch occasionally and not found anything. CPDN I am more likely to know about without checking as I am more involved being a moderator for their forums. If I find anything else in Random checking I will post. |

I hope i'm not OT but i saw the discussion on Reddit is developing and there are some good ideas, such as opening a GoFundMe campaign for BOINC. To understand better, what are the current issues with BOINC? If there are any. What does the project need most? More computing power, more developers, more funding, etc.? Can we create a list of needs? |

In reply to Luca's message of 18 Dec 2024: I hope i'm not OT but i saw the discussion on Reddit is developing and there are some good ideas, such as opening a GoFundMe campaign for BOINC. There are no issues with the BOINC itself. It's under an active development (1 major feature implemented this year https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/wiki/Sporadic-Applications, another big feature is almost complete and will be released with the next BOINC release quite soon: https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/wiki/BUDA-overview). However, during last years we see less active projects, and only a couple of them appeared during last few years. So the biggest BOINC needs is the outreach to the scientists who might benefit from it. If anyone knows anybody doing science or has any connections to the Universities - just tell them about BOINC. You don't need special permissions to do that. BOINC is not only about the crunchers, but also scientists: if there will be no active interesting projects - there will be no cruncher base. BOINC maintainer. For any insight, check my BOINC Development Blog. |

Indeed, I currently have 5 active projects and I’m considering adding a sixth but as of yesterday none of them have any work to hand out - I am now out of work with all but one of my computers shut down. |

As an Apple Silicon MacOS BOINC user, I would love for more projects to support Apple Silicon Mac computers, both CPU and GPU support, depending on the project. Currently, only Asteroids at home, einstein at home, and primegrid are working, with primegrid are working, and folding at home doesn't support the ARM GPU cores, cause of a lack of FP64 support from Apple, so support for more projects on more platforms is what I would love to see the most. |
