Hello, new to this forum, been running WCG for a while. Recently I found WCG does not receive any task on my new desktop, always shows communication deferred, looked up solutions but no luck. The other old desktops I own, however, can get new tasks without problems. Then I just noticed something, under the "Projects" tab, I see the account name is blank on that new desktop, while the other desktops show it. I've tried: - Remove the project and add it again, and again... - Reinstall the BOINC Manager - The other projects work fine tho My OS: - Latest Windows 11 build - BOINC Manager ver 7.24.1 (both new and old desktops have the same OS/Manager) Hope to find a way to fix it and continue contributing, thank you :) |

Did you attach to WCG manually (using your email address & password) and not using SCIENCE UNITED'S ACCOUNT MANAGER? If you used the latter (SU) that would most likely explain why the account name is blank. Please exit BOINC, Wait about 30 second and Restart BOINC. Wait 30 second then open the EVENT LOG (Control -Shift-E), post the first 30 to 50 lines of the log in this forum topic. |

Hmm, not sure what's a Science United Account Manager, I connected to WCG with BOINC Manager only. I did the same thing to all my desktops and only this one is not showing the account. But just let me post the event log, note the Windows account name is hidden manually by myself. 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | cc_config.xml not found - using defaults 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Starting BOINC client version 7.24.1 for windows_x86_64 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Libraries: libcurl/8.2.1-DEV Schannel zlib/1.2.13 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Data directory: D:\BOINC\Data 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Running under account [REDACTED] 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | OpenCL: Intel GPU 0: Intel(R) Arc(TM) A770 Graphics (driver version 31.0.101.5445, device version OpenCL 3.0 NEO, 15931MB, 15931MB available, 9830 GFLOPS peak) 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Windows processor group 0: 20 processors 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Processor: 20 GenuineIntel 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12700 [Family 6 Model 151 Stepping 2] 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss htt tm pni ssse3 fma cx16 sse4_1 sse4_2 movebe popcnt f16c rdrandsyscall nx lm avx avx2 tm2 pbe fsgsbase bmi1 smep bmi2 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | OS: Microsoft Windows 11: Core x64 Edition, (10.00.22631.00) 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Memory: 31.85 GB physical, 41.35 GB virtual 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Disk: 1.82 TB total, 1.45 TB free 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Local time is UTC +8 hours 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | No WSL found. 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | Einstein@Home | General prefs: from Einstein@Home (last modified 23-Apr-2024 19:11:10) 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | Einstein@Home | Host location: none 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | Einstein@Home | General prefs: using your defaults 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Reading preferences override file 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Preferences: 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - When computer is in use 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - 'In use' means mouse/keyboard input in last 3.00 minutes 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - max CPUs used: 10 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - Use at most 50% of the CPU time 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - max memory usage: 15.92 GB 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - When computer is not in use 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - max CPUs used: 10 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - Use at most 50% of the CPU time 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - max memory usage: 28.66 GB 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - Suspend if running on batteries 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - Store at least 0.10 days of work 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - Store up to an additional 0.50 days of work 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - max disk usage: 1486.57 GB 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | - (to change preferences, visit a project web site or select Preferences in the Manager) 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Setting up project and slot directories 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Checking active tasks 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | Einstein@Home | URL https://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/; Computer ID 13183164; resource share 100 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | PrimeGrid | URL http://www.primegrid.com/; Computer ID 1339951; resource share 100 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | PrimeGrid | Not using CPU: project preferences 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | World Community Grid | URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID not assigned yet; resource share 100 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Setting up GUI RPC socket 4/26/2024 10:46:25 PM | | Checking presence of 400 project files |

It's been a while since I attached to a new project, but I think that to do so you supply just two pieces of information: your e-mail address and a password. These are private to yourself only. You should usually set up a personal name or nickname, for use on forums etc. - as you have done with 'Piglish' here. You can only do that via the website of that particular project, so WCG in this case. WCG uses a non-standard website for a BOINC project, but you should be able to log into the account with the email/password combination, and provide the additional information they need. That should release the logjam which is currently leading to the message "Computer ID not assigned yet" in your log. |

Something else just crossed my mind as a potential issue with the new PC not having any information on BOINC Manager -- Especially since WCG still has not fixed the "missing device(s)" problem... If you go to the projects tab and highlight the line for WCG and click on the properties button on left side do you see a Computer ID number, Your User Name, etc? Please reply back with any information here what is on the pop-up screen. Also, Login to your WCG ACCOUNT see if the new PC shows up on your account by going to the Devices portal... https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/devices. Again, reply back what you find if anything. |

All the other desktops show my account name so I'm sure it's well configured, I don't remember I have this problem since 2014. |

If there is no work for WCG running on the problem computer, do a detach/remove and reattach to see if it will pick up the correct information. |

I suspected it might be related to the PC name, this PC is named in Chinese, while the others are named in English After the name changed and re-added the project, at first it did not show up, but after a while there's my name. But I don't know, I'm not sure. Anyway, my tasks are filled at this moment, I'll check if it grabs some WCG tasks later. Thanks for the help :) |

... this PC is named in Chinese You're welcome! Happy crunching. That's something I didn't think of but does make sense with the odd things in BOINC. |
