Recently, after resuming from Boinc ScreenSaver, I am noticing multiple Terminal tabs on my taskbar.
These cannot be closed - I need to go into Task Mgr to "end task" Terminal.
Not certain if this has anything to do with any recent Windows (or Powershell) updates.
Current projects running are Rosetta and Numberfields.
Running BOINC 7.24.1 (x64)

Been using this for 1-2 months, but this issue has only appeared in the past week or two.

Thanks

An upgrade seems the most likely cause. If so, I am guessing there will be more reports of this soon. Is this with Win11? The only version I have run since ME is Tiny10 a cut down version of Win10 in a VM that doesn't update unless I ask it to and I don't do that seeing as it is pretty safe in a VM.

Edit: Just noticed Win11 is in the thread title.

I'm turning off the BOINC screensaver to see if this eliminates the symptom. Will post updates....

I don't think Boinc is the problem.
I've been experiencing this nearly every day since 26 Feb.
It's got so bad, that after completing the 100 tasks still to run, I'm going to finally kill Windows on my systems & use Linux Mint.
Googling the issue found many are experiencing it.
It appeared to be Edge's helppane constantly bringing up Help in M$ support page,
Every time I closed it down, multiple pages opened.

Managing to get into task manager found helppage.exe + 3 other files associated with it.
Tried deleting them but no joy, so used a trick learnt in the early days of XP.
Delete from the bottom up. It worked for the 3 files but not the .exe so renamed it .cra. You can guess what word I meant. :)
Unfortunately, whatever caused it is still on the system somewhere & after every program closed they pop up again, only this time Boinc Advanced View page in the wiki, even though Boinc is even running.
This is after closing Firefox after a browsing session.
I'm thinking an M$ update.
#crew M$ & their "unstoppable updates".

So, an update (and maybe final one from me unless things change again).

I did turn off the screensaver and notice that it went away. Yet! I have since re-enabled my screensaver *and performed an Windows update* (of "cumulative fixes").

For now, today, the world seems ok.

Thanks for the forum to sound out.
