I have a profile set up that restricts any activity while the computer is in use, but allows up to 90% CPU after 2 minutes of non-usage.

I just upgraded to the latest version and it appears to not only ignore those preferences from the world community grid website, it ignores a local override of the prefs. So it's basically doing its own thing, running around 75% CPU all the time.

In the messages I can see that it is either using my "general" prefs, or the override, but that doesn't actually affect how it runs, it just ignores them.

How can I tame this new version and make it respect the preferences?

Can you exit BOINC, then restart it and post the messages from Boinc Manager's messages tab?

Also, do you only run WCG? Or another project as well? Else try to edit and update the preferences through that project, see if it isn't a WCG problem with preferences.

As for preferences file, which one did you use?
global_prefs.xml
global_prefs_override.xml
cc_config.xml

??

What if you Go Advanced, Read local prefs file in Boinc Manager?

I am only doing one project. I am not maintaining prefs files individually, I'm using profiles on the WCG website which was working on the older version. Reading local prefs did not change anything, and the override does not work.

Please exit BOINC.

Open client_state.xml with a text editor. Find and edit <host_venue>none</host_venue> to show <host_venue>home</host_venue>

Save the file.

restart BOINC. Let's first see if that helps. If it doesn't, I have informed the developer for the Mac version already. I hope he's looking in.

Nicely done! The profile is called "work" so I followed your instructions and set the venue to work. I checked the messages and it now says:

Fri Feb 2 13:12:11 2007||Host location: work
Fri Feb 2 13:12:11 2007||General prefs: using separate prefs for work

... and it's paused because I am active.

Thank you!
