Hi,

I've just installed boinc-client on a small GPU-less Debian home server. I manage boinc-client with boinctui.

I have connected to several projects (climateprediction.net, asteroids@home, rosetta@home, milkyway@home).

The ones where I can download data (asteroids@home and milkyway@home) quickly turn to "DoneEr" status. boinctui also reports Exit status 13 and state 3 (compute error). Is this because the server lacks a GPU or is there another problem?

Not sure if related, but Rosetta@home specifically complains that it requires 3337Mb RAM and only 3008Mb are available, but the server has 2.5Gb RAM available and is otherwise idle.

BOINC shouldn't download tasks which require a GPU if there isn't a suitable one present.

That seems to me a bit odd that BOINC should report you have more Ram than you do. 3008MB is more than you say the server has but the message is why you are not getting any tasks from Rosetta.

You will only be able to run the older HADAM4 tasks from CPDN as the newer OIFS ones require a minimum of 5GB, and some will require even more. (The next work expected for CPDN is of the WAH2 variety so Windows tasks so that server would need WINE installed.

Ok, I'll detach from the Rosetta and CPDN project, but what about the others? Tasks are downloaded but then they fail.

Could you also recommend some low-requirement projects? I can't seem to find requirements listed on their websites.

Not projects I am familiar with. The best place to search for answers is the projects' own forums and the stderr on the task pages on their sites.

While waiting for more CPDN work I am running WCG tasks and they are all showing up as 1% of memory so should run fine on relatively low powered machines.
