I am using BOINC 7.16.20 and Windows 10 (64bit). As some of you may know, there have been problems with WCG during its transition from IBM to the Krembil Research Institute. One of these problems has been the generation of spurious messages advising users that the URL for the project has changed. Until recently, the advice was to ignore such messages. Recently, however, the advice to certain users only (if I have understood things correctly) is that they may need to detach then reattach the project to finally stop these messages being generated. However, within BOINC, the "Remove" button for WCG (and for SETI) is greyed out although for other projects it is not. Advice from the WCG forum is that I must have attached these projects using an account manager (such as BAM). Whilst I do use BAM for my stats, I have no recollection whatsoever of using anything other than BOINC to attach projects and when I look at "My Projects" within BAM, it is completely blank with no projects listed. (I joined SETI in 2002 and WCG in 2007 - I don't believe I started with BAM stats (if my memory is correct) until sometime later). Q1 Does the fact that the "My Projects" page has nothing listed confirm my view that I did not use BAM to attach WCG (and Seti)? Q2 If so, how do I detach WCG in such circumstances? Any thoughts welcome. Thanks. |

The message from WCG to remove and re-attach is a spurious message can and should be ignored. As to removing if you are running an account manager - someone else can answer that. |

Q1 Does the fact that the "My Projects" page has nothing listed confirm my view that I did not use BAM to attach WCG (and Seti)?I can not think of another reason for them being greyed out unless attached via an account manager. There should be an option somewhere to remove any account manager you have installed but I can't remember where it is. (I had the gridcoin one installed at one time. That would then remove any projects attached with it. |

The message from WCG to remove and re-attach is a spurious message can and should be ignored. Except that, in attempting to fix the problem they have introduced another problem purely for those running Boinc 7.16.20 who connected during a short window where the master list specified https rather than http and BM auto updated the URL but cannot automatically back out the change. So, if you are attached to https//www.worldcommunitygrid.org you should detach and reattach to http//www.worldcommunitygrid.org |

The message from WCG to remove and re-attach is a spurious message can and should be ignored. The "auto-adjust" feature of HTTP>HTTPS was actually introduced in v7.16.11, so anyone running v7.16.11 or higher could be affected by this issue, that was introduced purely by accident by the WCG admins. And it is correct that it only works one way. If the admins returns to HTTP from HTTPS, like in this case, then the only (simple) way to get rid of that message, is to detach, and attach again with the HTTP prefix. |
