Running BOINC 7.18.1. Long time runner of BOINC for several projects. While trying to solve the gui_rpc_auth problem, and having no listed solution work, in frustration I completely uninstalled everything with an apt-get purge. This worked but of course deleted all my project statistics from the client gui, years and years of them. Is there anyway to reload them? Thank you.

The customary way it to merge the old client into the new client on each project with the Merge function provided in the BOINC Server software at each project. You will lose the original creation date of the host but reclaim the previously crunched credits.

Should be possible as the hardware or OS hasn't changed between the new and old client hosts. The purge and new re-attaches to your projects created new host ID's likely.

Can't say if that is the case here as the BOINC forums don't allow looking at anyone's hardware.

The other option is to reclaim the old hostID through manipulation of the client_state.xml file. This is the only option when changing between dissimilar OS' on a host. Like moving from Windows to Linux or vice versa.

So I have to ask to people who run each project?

No. Go to your account profile page on each project and select your Computers. From the list, find the two computers Host ID's that share the same hardware. Click on the older host ID that you want to preserve.

Click Details for the host and at the bottom of the page is a Merge link. Click on that and it will show which computer matches the hardware/software of the other newer hostID.

When you click Merge these two computers, it will merge the older host ID into the newer host ID and pick up the stats from the older host that you purged. You'll get your credits back but will lose the creation date of the original host.

Read the BOINC Wiki page on merging. https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Host_identification_and_merging

As I read it that's not what OP is trying to do. It's not merging the clients that he wants, he has removed everything BOINC and has lost his statistics_*.xml files thus the Statistics tab in BOINC Manager is now empty. He's trying to get those back. And unless he has a backup of the BOINC data directory, or at least of those statistics files, I don't think this can easily be done. Maybe that the actual files can be undeleted?

I know that is what he wants. But unless he made a backup of the BOINC data directory, those statistics files for each of his projects are long gone and never to be recovered.

He could try the data recovery applications but likely the reinstallation of BOINC software after the purge likely overwrote the locations that BOINC had saved the files unless his new installation was to a different disk or something.

The best he can hope for is to recover them from the project schedulers when he contacts them with his new host ID and uses the Merge function.

Coming back to this, this won't fix the statistics files or the graphs in BOINC Manager. This will only make new statistics files with the latest data point in them (the newest credit value). Getting new hostIDs and merging them with a previous older one won't fix that either.
