Wow! That's a lot of bug-fixes for long-standing issues.

I don't see it either on the 'download all' page or in the https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/ directory.

(and there's been no announcement of any testing programme)

(and no new or updated 'release branch' of the source code)

I wonder if that post was just a many day delayed April Fool's Day joke.

When I posted it, it was there on the download page. But in the meantime I see Charlie has editted the release notes for the Mac additions, so maybe it's retracted until a general all platforms version comes out. (Or half sleepy I read 7.16.20 as 7.20.0, is also a possibility, I went to bed shortly thereafter)

What struck me was that it was done on the down low, hush hush, no one knowing about it. It's that I got the email about the release notes being edited that I knew about it.

Be aware that it's a pre-release version, not yet fully tested. And no announcement has yet been made concerning real-world testing (though it's pretty thoroughly free of syntax errors).

My long-time https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/issues/1773 is finally fixed in this release.

Nvidia cards will finally show the correct amount of VRAM for the CUDA enumeration calls in the startup of the Event Log.

Is there a compiled version I can try? In particular, I would like to see if switching to advanced view along with various other actions causes it to crash under WINE. Unless I can do this I am stuck with an older 32 bit version for WINE. I have not had success with downloading the bits needed to compile it and then getting it to run under WINE.

I believe you are needing the 64 bit Linux client? If so:

Or if I am mistaken in what OS you run, then Windows64 here:

Scroll down on https://github.com/BOINC/boinc/releases/tag/client_release/7.20/7.20.0 and find two executables. One 64bit without and one 64bit with vbox included.

Has the internet become so difficult these days that simply checking on the page linked has become impossible for people? There's no need to link to artifacts.

Thanks, it is in fact the Windows one I wanted in order to see if the problem with 64bit BOINC crashing under WINE on Linux has been resolved. I don't really want to go down the route of running Windows in a VM but unless the problem with WINE is resolved I have a choice between that and sticking with a much older 32bit BOINC.

@ Jord
My bad.

And the crashing problem has gone under WINE!

And in a vm as I don't want to close BOINC on the host machine, tasks on Sidock seem to run fine and I haven't managed to crash it yet so it looks like 64bit BOINC is working again under WINE. Nothing untoward to report so far though as running under WINE I won't be able to check performance with VB.

it only took the code being handed to them to finally admit it was a BOINC bug and not an nvidia bug that they had been blaming for years.

There is if the person wants the Linux releases. Which is what I thought the OP wanted since he mentioned using WINE which is a Linux program to emulate Windows.

You do know that your links don't work (give a page 404) when not logged in, that they require a Github account?

Yes... so why would he want to run a Linux BOINC in WINE when WINE is an emulator program for running Windows programs under Linux?

or why would he want to run Windows BOINC under WINE in Linux, when native Linux BOINC exists?

Because there are times when CPDN doesn't have any work for one platform or another. I am currently running three testing branch Windows tasks using the new Windows client and manager with another five Linux tasks running in the native client.

Known issue:

Switching from Advanced view to Simple view will crash the manager with a WxWidgets Debug error. This is being worked on by the developers.
