AS noted by a mod, this mostly needs moving to another thread. CPDN in the dim and distant past used to produce the work themselves. Now, what happens is researchers from around the world pay Oxford to run work for them. This is often to do with PhD, masters or post doc research which means, CPDN do not dictate the work flow and since the change to not producing the work themselves, there has always been a feast or famine pattern. I was till WCG went off line for their move, running Africa Rain Project tasks when no mainsite or testing work was available. I currently have 8 tasks running from latest batches and expect to probably get the odd one when they finish from the many that crash them due to not having the 32bit libs installed.

And now CPDN has no tasks for Linux either. Is that project actually alive?
Yes. It's just allocated me four new tasks: three resends and one brand new.

Unbelievable!

This guy came here and asked for advice how to drive a nail into something.
He got the advice to use a hammer and to be careful not to hit his thumb.
After he hit his thumb he blames the hammer and those who gave him advice.

Ah you again. You moan at everyone everywhere I see you. You report me for saying a naughty word. Go away. How do you pronounce your name anyway? Are you a foreigner?

Actually, I'll use Windows to screw the screw in instead of Linux to hammer it in. You know, Windows, the OS you can use without haivng 50 billion degrees in computer programming.

This account is just the new name for the Peter Hucker account that was banned.

More about what you are used to than anything intrinsically difficult about Linux. These days, anything doesn't work on a Windows machine (other half's) I need to do an internet search to work out how to sort it but then I haven't had windows on my own machines since 98 and Me, the latter of which I assume was myalgic encephalitis because it slowed my machine down so much.

No, Linux is a blank slate. I have to give permission to myself to give permission to a file to be an application with permission to run. And all of that in a command prompt. Command prompts are from the 80s.

Only because you don't know what you are doing with Linux. I can do almost everything from the GUI. And the command line is a lot simpler than editing the registry in Windows. I use the command line where it is quicker than doing things graphically but other than that I don't touch it.

I'm not even sure where to begin and what to do with this thread. Will think about it.

Well it works in Windows, and it's so much easier.

Yes, it’s easy - but then compare the number of virus infections you get in Windows to those on Linux machines, even with all the antivirus software slowing Windows installations down.

I would agree if you make a cut at the point where the thread obviously becomes OT.
You may keep the older posts and remove the rest.

The one year deadline is from 18 years ago, when the models used at that time, (Slab Ocean), took months to run.
It's just convenient to leave it at that, because the project uses a different way to limit the runs.

Each experiment is in "batches", (there's a number in the name which says which one it's from), and when the researcher has enough data returned, the batch is closed.
Any model data not returned at that point is discarded, so the cruncher loses out on finishing it.

So don't dilly dally around with getting a model run, and the data sent back. :)
